How small can you go on a 128i M-Sport
I saw a Miata with thick wheels and was wondering how small a diameter wheel will fit over the 128's brakes.

16's for sure will fit. Some winter tire options from the dealership were 16's for the 128's. Some 15's might work but you'd need to do more research and see if people have experimented with that size.

For functionalities sake on a 28i I'd go for 17s. Bimmerworld/Titan7 has a great set of forged wheels in that size that look nice fit properly, super lightweight, and are affordable.

The only tires worth getting in 15's are all ~23" diameter, so would look too small and still only have about the same sidewall height as the stock ~25" tires with 17's. If you want to go for a meatier look, your only real option of note is 16's with 225/50 tires. The right style wheel with the right offset will also help to pull off the look.

I rather like the look of this particular Miata.
The thicker tire wall gives it a vintage look. Look at the tires on old Lamborghini Miura, and Ferrari Daytona. The whole19", 20" wheel thing is passe nowadays. . |

I agree with where you're going. I bought 17" style 68 wheels from e46 330i (staggered) on my 135i for auto-x. 225/45 & 255/40 on stock msport suspension no issues. really liked having the extra side wall. I've upgraded my suspension to add -2 camber but no auto-x due to covid.
almost went with 17's as a DD but still running 18's. Had 19s on my 230i with dinan lowering springs and eventually regretted it. totally over wheels that are to large, no sidewalls, and dealing with constant scrapping - ground clearance issues. |
