I am doing this exact thing in order to swap from the glacier aluminum to grey poplar. The guy I am swapping with has the ashtray and I dont. I took my pieces out already, but will be doing the swap tomorrow. Unfortunately, my car is not prewired for the power socket, so you would have to run a wire to the rear power outlet yourself.

My June 09 build cabriolet also has the ash tray - so you need an 08 or 09 for parts. I was thinking of waiting a couple months to get a 2010 but am glad I got my 09. Mirrors are different too, I think. But 09 has the one compartment big enough for CDs in the arm rest like the 2010 (at least mine does).

there is a mod out there that has a lighter socket for the molding just under the light switch to the left of the wheel. Looks pretty easy to install. You could also custom mount a lighter/power source in your cubby...pretty easy to do if you feel comfortable cutting the tray and you could daisy chain it to the power from the existing lighter plug under the armrest.
just a thought
