Attention - VMR (Question)

Hello,

I spoke with a Canadian supplier here in Toronto about purchasing a staggered set of the 710's for my 128i.

18x8.5 - 45 offset
18x9.5 - 50 offset

After being on the phone with him for 20 minuets he said that there are no 18x8.5 rims listed on his site or database that he was referring too.

He said that he could only find a 18 rim NOT the 18x8.5 that I was requesting.

He also said that he wouldn't even suggest putting a 225 on a 18x8.5 rim as the tire would be too stretched.

Heck, while I was taking to this guy I was looking at a previous post by VMR that showed the exact set-up I was looking for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He also said that is looked like there was no inventory showing for the rims I wanted in California and I would be placed on a waiting list until they are made available to him. - Is this true!!???

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
"Hoopie"

225 on a 8.5 would be a bit stretched but still safe. People (including me) normally use 225 on the 7.5 stock fronts.

OP,

We do offer a 18x8.5 +45 and a 18x9.5 +50 VMR V710 in the Hyper Silver finish.

225's can work on a 8.5" rim perfectly fine. Depending on the tire manufacturer, it may give off a hair of a stretch but it will not be very noticeable at all.

The wheels are in stock at our warehouse here in Anaheim, CA. Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions.

Stock tires are 215 on a 7.5 width wheel, anything higher would look fat over the wheel.

IMO the perfect setup for this car is a 8" wheel up front with a 225 tire and 9" in the rear with a 255 tire.

Just wondering, if I ran a 18x8" 45et vmr 701 up front with 225 tires and a 18x9.5" et50 with 255 tires in the rear, would there be any problem with that much of a difference of wheel width from the front and rear? I know usually with a staggered setup, an inch difference between the two is usually recommended. Reason I ask is because I know a vendor that will be getting 18x8" 45et vmr 701s in some time in the near future but will not have a 9" but instead the regular 9.5 for my rears. Id really much rather run the 8" wheel in the front opposed to the 8.5" as I think the 8.5 is just a little too wide for the front with no camber messing. Whereas the 9.5 in the rear IMO looks perfect with a 50 offset.

Just wondering if this 1.5" difference in wheel width would cause any strain or performance decrease in any way. Id likely be running 225's in the front and 255-265's in the rear.

Most cars (Porsches, Vettes, etc) that I've dealt with before used 2" of wheel stagger from front to rear. An 8" front with a 9.5" rear would be fine on our cars.

Would there be any issues with over/understeer though? Ive heard of this due to staggered setups, just not sure about the context..

Our cars naturally understeer. Wider front tires help this but you really can't put anything wider than a narrow running 235 on the front of our cars without running some extra camber. A 225 or 235 fits an 8" wheel fine so in effect no difference. If anything the 8" would allow a slightly better tire fit and would weigh less.

Wish the goddamn ER widebody was an easier option to go with..

Fucking atleast $2500 for the whole bit painted, that doesnt even include installation. Then I could run 9.5" wheels front and back, 265 tires all around, straight setup with better grip and performance and nearly zero understeer.
Too bad the fucking 1M is only manual, cuz they pretty much fixed that issue with that model is seems

Our VMR V701's are arriving in 8.5 +45 soon and Pre-orders will be posted shortly, but we do not have any 8" or 9" wheels anytime soon.

8.5 +45 front can work with a 225 and a 9.5 +50 rear can work with a 255.

K well im not sure if someone has their facts wrong, but PYspeed has 18x8 701's listed, just not in stock at the time. Spoke to them and they said from what they heard, theyd be in sometime round mid spring

Cuz this is really what Id rather run. Would look perfect. And the 701's dont break my bank like Advans and CSL's do
