rock chip on hood... what to do?

Finally, what I was dreading and trying to avoid has happened.... I have the first scratch on my car.

So, I was returning from the dealer after having the alarm installed. Another BMW in front of me kicked up a few rocks (or may be hardened mud) that landed right on my hood.

Now there are four small scratches. One is a little deep like a gash - about 1 inch long. Two other scratches are not so deep, but quite visible (especially on black). And the fourth scratch is actually on the windshield, right in front of my face.

I'm thinking of getting it professionally repaired. (professionally, because I tried touching up my previous old car, and didn't do a great job. I don't want to mess the hood of my dearest One).

1. Where should I go for the repair? To a detailer, or a paint shop? Any suggestions about a good place to get this done in San Diego?
2. I also want to get my car polished to remove the swirl marks the idiots at the dealer put on my car.
3. Any estimate of how much the paint touch up + polishing would cost?

Thanks!

OK.. so after some detailed reading, I'm inclined to use drcolorchip.com's product. (http://drcolorchip.com/)

I wanted a recommendation about a good detailer in San Diego, who can polish my car to remove the fine swirl marks. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I've never tried it, but I'd be interested in your results. If you could post before and after pictures it would be awesome.

Good luck!!

The way i look at it is that it is inevitable and you will eventually start getting dents and dings and scratches. A car is either going to be driven or cleaned up to be in a show. Decide what your car is for, if its not being judged then dont let the dings and scratches get you down.I would suggest a repaint and then get rockblocker for the front bumper and half of the hood should do it.

I got Autobahnd and it looks pretty nice. The only place I really notice it is the hood like. But I don't mind.

Looking at that site makes me debate whether or not to get the clear bra even more.....if the results of small nicks and chip repair are really that good.

I got the Dr Colorchip for a couple of nicks that I have (already)

While it's not perfect, it works well. I'd recommend it.

I'd say it's head and shoulders above regular touch up paint, but you can still see the chip if you look closely enough. Perhaps if I hit it again a few times with the paint and buff it will fade even more.

I went to my BMW dealer and they charged me $10 for a touch up kit. I had a few nasty chips on my hood right around the Roundel (Its almost like the rocks had a target). Followed the instructions and it looks great.
