Man this is getting old!

Cobb AP has paid for itself like 100 times over. Both VANOS solenoids are new, fresh oil.... This happened at idle.

Often I also get a "Personal Convienience group Failure" code which I understand can indicate a failing battery, however, coupd a failing battery also contribute to the frequency of my other codes?

I'd really like to get this sorted before tearing into the car and replacing the cam ledger bearings.

There's a good chance that a weak battery could cause false codes. Not having enough juice could make the ECU receive weak signals from the sensors which leads to codes. The nice thing is it is pretty easy to check if your battery and/or your alternator is getting weak. Good luck!

Also - do any of the codes point towards carbon buildup? I am new to the 1er but I have lots of experience from the VW/Audi cars.

Ski Killset > After you clear them, how long does it take before they come back. Do they all come back?

The P VANOS codes / limp mode have been recurring since I got the car. Replaced both sensors after cleaning failed. They happen about maybe every three weeks, rarely while driving agressively. Usually at idle or just cruising. The H codes are new, but same things.

The presonal convienience code I've gotten twice.

I replaced the battery this morning so we will see. I would assume if the system is as sensetive as they say then a failing battery could make the sensors a tad irritable.

I had the intake valves blasted about a month ago, but I don't think carbon build up would cause these codes. I also just had my oil changed like 1,000 miles ago because I read that sludge can cause VANOS codes.

VANOS codes after replacing the solenoids could mean bad CAM bearing ledges. They are cheap (50 bucks each). But the labor is expensive. If you can do the work yourself, then it's a cheap fix.

Yeah I'm all prepared to do that. The tools are the expensive part! But there is a company that rents them out. Dealer charges almost $2k to do it, but I figure it can be done in an afternoon.

Yeah so short lived celebration. In the past two days I've has a VANOS Inlet code three times. But I also reinstalled my Cobb Stg 1 Sport map so that could be the problem as well. Gonna run stg 0 for a week and see. I would just unmarry it but since I have to reset it sometimes 2-3 times a day...

Looks like I'm ordering some cam legers.

Anyone make cams for the N54? As long as I have it apart I may as well cam it.

Nevermind about cams, search just revealed a bunch of people digging on the OP just for asking!
