Nice work bud. You're a braver man than I attempting that with the radiator fan still in. Glad to see you got it all buttoned up and back to business without finding yourself stranded on the side of the road -- we're a few of the lucky ones!

Today I swapped pin 1 and pin 3 in the plug where the left paddle shifter joins the steering wheel. This makes it pull to downshift, push to upshift. Thus, it's now completely unintuitive to anyone who's driven a 1er before, but now it works exactly as you'd expect if you've driven any other paddle shift car in the world. (Pull left for downshift, pull right for upshift)

Exactly. Those cars were meant for things like that, although the 1er will do in a pinch.

I actually had no idea they did that in the 135's. I have yet to drive a DCT 1er...

I think the DCT might be back to standard, I've not driven one; but the AT version of the 1 series has a very unique paddle method: pull for upshift, push for downshift (same on both sides).

Which is actually more convenient, but is different from basically every other car ever made.

The most common way to 'fix' it, is to swap in DCT paddles from an M3 (they look better, and interface easily).

But this mod costs nothing, retains the convenience of having both up & downshift available with one hand, and means the basic behavior is now consistent with every other paddle-shift car.

DCT is normal. Left is down and right is up.

My MY2011 135i is left for down shift and right for up shift as was my 2010 Golf GTI.

Installed the passenger xenon headlight and reinstalled my front bumper. I then took it for a drive. I then pulled up to a wall and aimed the headlights and drove it back home and tucked it away for the night.

Mission accomplished!!

Just ordered a set of ECS rotors (front and rear) and a set of Carbotech pads. Gotta love the "click and buy."

In the course of the last 4 months.

- Water pump
- serpentine belt snapped whilst driving and I lost power steering
- AC compressor died. Replaced it.
- Intermittent 30FF code.
- Immediate 29DC code as soon as I rev over 3500 RPM. Ordered new LPFP that should be arriving today.
- Newly installed AC compressor broke 2 months after being installed. I went through the entire Australian summer with no AC and a black car.
- As soon as I ordered the LPFP, the 29DC code has stopped and I'm now getting HPFP codes.

Lots of tinkering with the Alpina bin last night, and this mornings drive to work was pretty much awesome.

D mode is very stock behaving- warmup held gears like stock, basic drive behavior was spot on, quick transitions onto braking or heavy acceleration behaved correctly with well timed gear changes, even changed gears properly on the few poor excuses for hills that are seen on my commute to the office.

All without changing the much loved behavior of Sport or Manual modes that the Alpina flash is much loved for.

Pretty sure the Mini Cooper S models I've driven with paddle shifters were the same way. Not surprising, when you think about it.

I went to town on my 128i, since it's approaching 50K, and I have no idea how the original owner cared for it. I started with a coolant flush and fill with the BMW blue juice. Then I Changed the oil and filter. Then I changed the manual trans fluid and differential fluid with factory fill stuff. Finally, I changed the brake fluid and clutch fluid. While I was down there, I yanked out that nasty clutch delay valve (one of the best no-cost mods I've ever done). Took her for a spin, filled her up with BP 93, and chuckled that I got 28.6MPG in mixed driving, no less. I don't know where BMW comes up with their mileage ratings, but here in flat old Illinois, it's pretty easy to beat them!
