Which tune are you running? BPC vs AA vs BMS powerbox
Hey guys just wanted to know what tune you guys are running and how your experience has been with it so far I'm currently looking at the AA tune it's more cheaper then the BPC tune the bms tune is even cheaper but it's rated for less power. If you guys know of any other tunes for the n52 let me know

Bpc is the best, so much support, the only tune that supports milvs, can be updated, also have the best tq hp figures

desertman123 has the Bimmerlabs 130i BASE tune. It'll put you at stock 130i numbers, and I don't think it costs anything, and would be a great eventual baseline if you ever get dyno tuned...

Correct. It's not going to be better than an actual tune, but it is a good baseline.

I'll be grabbing a custom tune from Hassmachine one of these days (he's a busy guy). 130i is supposed to do 265hp. I do notice a difference after the headers - feels low RPM is reduced but midrange and upper is increased in power. Certainly not optimized though. No CELs - obviously I throw codes but after ~1000 miles no lights on my dash. I'd love the BPC tune if I weren't such a brokeboi lol Just wanna make it clear to anyone reading this. BMS powerbox is not a tune, doesn't add power and is a complete waste. Thank you for your time.

Had my 125i tuned last week, running MS-Tuning local shop in Germany.
It is basically a 130i (for us in EU) tune + some of that timing and valve lift, rated at 270hp. |

AA tune w/DISA manifold. Chose AA since there is a local dealer and he sourced the manifold. Completely satisfied. Better performance all around, better bottom end and much stronger pull at higher rpm. No issues at all.

REM Motorsports dyno.
I really think their dyno is messed up or needs calibration/correction. Torque and power NEVER crossed, not at 5,250 rpms or even at redline. Max torque started as early as 2K rpms and held till around 5K then started to drop. Only a software tune 254 hp at the clutch (they call it the clutch power NOT flywheel, maybe there is a difference? dont know). Interestingly it put 234hp at the wheels, another reason for suspecting their dyno being not calibrated, adjusted or corrected, such a low power loss in drive drain. Here is a bad phone pic, when i get back home on Monday i will scan the graph. Everyone at the shop was smiling, i asked why? they are happy/refreshed to see a simple yet typical BMW straight 6 again. No turbos, no heat issues, no boost drop, no vacuum leaks...just a car, with an engine with the typical straight 6 howl at 4K+ rpms Peak power was at 6,600 to 6,700 rpms, near redline, a linear graph (kind of you will see the picture). €80 for 3 runs, 300m+ above sea level and a 25c degree day. BTW i have a video of all 3 runs so, that will have to wait or i will try to upload it. |

1. The vertical scale isn't in the photo, nor the hp past 2500 RPM. Without it the graph means nothing. 2. "254 at the clutch" is just as much a guess as is "at the flywheel/crank". 3. How does it "feel" ?

As promised, first graph is "clutch" power, second is at the wheels.
Notice the two big dips as well as those minor bumps, not very smooth at all. I am second guessing this tune, not sure if it is worth driving 5 hours to him (one way) and investigating what we can do, or scrap it and go for a retune at someone else or let it be. |

Just an update, 2 months ago i replaced the v-belt and tensioner. It appears that the intake boot to the airbox was not seated correctly causing a small air leak.
This could had been a minor or major influence on the performance/tune of the car, i got it sorted yesterday. I am invited to join a team in VLN on August 18th in the pit, as well as most likely doing another 2 day track event on Nürburgring between the 27th and 28th of August. Point is, i may pass by the same dyno shop and see if the airbox connection played a role with the car's performance. Could be no gains but a smoother graph, or a 10hp gain, less or no gain. Lets see, will update you guys next month. |

Actually,
Those numbers are spot on for a tune only car. 228/229 SAE whp for a dyno turned car is pretty good. If you had other mods, like a cat less exhaust or headers, yeah that would be low. But those numbers are good. Last edited by Taskmaster; 07-09-2018 at 09:25 AM.. |

Horsepower = Torque * RPM / Constant The constant varies based on the units used to measure horsepower and torque, and it is also the RPM where the lines will cross on the graph. When the dyno shows horsepower in HP and torque in Ft-Lbs, the constant is 5252. Your graph shows power in metric horsepower (PS) and torque in Newton-Meters (NM). I couldn't find the constant online for these units, but with some conversion rates and algebra you can calculate it to about 7023. Your graph appears to end at just about 7000 so it makes total sense that the lines never crossed. |
