These seem really inexpensive...is your experience positive with them? I ask because my plan was to get RE-71's for grip and for safety (known high quality entity) for taking my car closer to limits. The price on these seems too good to be true!

I mean they have some issues but all tires do, I've seen two examples of the new RS4 delaminating and only 3 examples of the RSRR having similar issues and they've been around longer.

I can't really answer that for you but I will probably still run the RSRR or FZ201 for casual HPDE events. Just inspect them after sessions

So tempting...I liked the way RS-RR drive, just not sure if they're fast enough for me. Def picking up a pair of fronts for my drift car though. Thanks!

This tire splitting issue is pretty overblown in my opinion, if this was Falken Bridgestone Hankook etc we wouldn't even be talking about it. We know people love to post about anything negative that happens with their car so I think we'd be seeing a lot more threads about this on forums like NASIOC where federals are actually popular for the track.

Also, for reference, a similar delamination has been known to occur on the RS4. I even saw some of our favorite child RE71Rs at Global Time Attack last week with tread splitting issues.

its not "blown out of proportion" when literally every intermediate driver who runs these tires on a roadcourse experiences tire failure. Also, Re-71r are not a roadcourse tire either. They do well for a few laps, but they can't handle the heat either. This is well known. They wear insanely fast in this setting.

The federals are a "you get what you pay for" tire. They are cheap and they perform at the bottom/middle of the 200tw catagory in autocross. Definitely not good for a roadcourse and these claims they produce such great grip are what is really blown out of proportion. Habkooks by far were a better tire from my experience. The rs-rrs does perform well on the street though especially when cold. I'll give them that for sure and that's where I think people love them and rave about them most.

I've never had a split on a RSRR and I drive decently hard (1:44 Laguna Seca, 2:04 Thunderhill Cyclone, 1:28 T-hill West) - I've also run 5+ sets of them.

That's a pretty aggressive generalization on your part... I've seen two examples of tread separation on RS4s that have only been available for ~8 months. I don't doubt that there are QA issues at Federal but this is an issue for every brand and in every industry.

Just info: My virus software detects a trojan at that website now. Hope they get it sorted. Am seriously considered trying out the Federals vice RE-71s as they are half the price.

Tl;dr the split is cosmetic and there's no reports of delamination/failures

So I take this back, I found a split in the tread in a pair I threw out. My rep said that after talking with one of the federal engineers who was at Super Lap Battle, he claims that they know of the issue on a small number of the tires that are driven really hard but no one has had any issues with delamination, failure, air loss etc. These tires are all over the place at time attack events and there are people driving them hard, pretty sure a failure would be front-page news.

Most people I speak to state that the FZ201 is equally as fast at an NT01 but with worse manners on track and a very slightly shorter life span - these should be in stock within a week, I'm waiting for some sets myself.

I just ended up calling them. $400 for a full set of track tires to my door. Cant beat that. I went with 235/40/17 knowing they run wider than other tires.
