Dead Battery!

Hey all, so my battery died on my 2012 135i.

My question is, how mych does a BMW battery cost?

Do I need to/Is it advised to replace my old one with the BMW battery, or can I just get a generic one?

Thanks!

BMW batteries from the dealer will cost a lot because the service also includes coding.
Yes you can use a generic one but get one with the same specifications as what you have now, ie: wet cell vs AGM, 80ah or 90ah, etc. Battery must have vent tube. Coding is not mandatory but recommended.
I'd recommend talking to your local BMWCCA club for their recommendations for good local indy garages.

Especially with a 135, you need use a good indy garage that knows these cars well.
Good Luck
Oh, and buy a good battery maintainer from Deltran, CTEK or Schumacher.

2013 BMW 128i  [10.00]
When the original battery on my 2013 128i started to cause strange issues with the Comfort Access keys, I figured it was time to replace it. A deep charge would keep it working properly for a couple of weeks, then the problems came back. Modern cars are very voltage sensitive. That being said, the fact that my BMW battery had lasted for over eight-years was enough for me to choose the BMW replacement for it.

I had used the BMW replacement in my 1995 E34 almost ten-years ago and didn't disappoint me then. You can buy from a dealership that offers the best price and put it in yourself. The jury is out on the battery "registration" even among BMW Master Techs. I did it myself with the Schwaben tool, though I'm unclear how a system supposedly smart enough to vary its charge rate by the condition of the battery needs to be told when it gets a new battery. Seems antithetical to me!
