Lightbulb FYI: Removing Thin Plastidip

When I did my window trim in black plastidip I thought I put on enough coats, but I guess I didn't. It isn't coming off in big chunks and it's worse when its cold.

I'm a little chicken to try plastidip liquifier, Goo-gone, paint thinner, WD-40 because of the damage it could do to the adhesive, rubber seals, etc so I needed a new plan.

I had started just rubbing it with my nails/finger/microfiber to get it to roll but damn is that an arduous process. To get a really clean edge to pull and/or get little stubborn bits off without scratching I decided to use a wooden cuticle tool. Yes, the kind that a nail salon would use. The wood is soft enough to not scratch the chrome trim, but picks up the edge of the plastidip really well.

It still will take me a while to take it all off, but at least there is an end in sight.

I know you said you are scared to use plastidip liquifier but I did use plastidip dissolver(liquifier) on my rims and it worked perfectly fine. https://www.dipyourcar.com/Dip-Dissolver-Category/
Ask these guys perhaps? They do metion that they don't recommend using it on plastic materials that are black.

Get goo gone in the hand pump spray. It's not toxic and with a MF it'll come off easier.

OT: Curious question, how did your rims look after using the dip dissolver?

I hear that plastidip can affect the oem paint which is prevented me from plasti dipping mine...

No problem on mine. I had to re-plastidip due to low threads on tire. I removed most of plastidip by hand and used dissolver to get rid of spots that I missed just to be sure :P

But I did not see any problem on mine... I don't know why they would hurt the paint? just do it LOL

This is window trim, which I'm pretty sure is plastic and is adhered, not just clipped to the car. My worry is that dip dissolver may dissolve the plastic trim/adhesive.

Also, I don't want to re-wax my door panels after doing it, since I just spent 6 hours doing that on Sunday...

Do you have shadowline trim? If not, I think you will be fine using the dissolver. Dipyoucar says that it should be avoid using it on BLACK plastic and does not metion about any other plastic or color. However, you should still call dipyoucar and ask They are really easy to work with.

Spray on some more, no need to worry about it being sloppy, once it dries peel it all off.

After damaging mine with an ice scraper last winter I removed all of it in less than 5 mins.

Even though the current stuff has been on there for a year? Will it really still stick to itself that well?

Update: Tried the Goo Gone spray gel. Saturate a paper towel, wipe a coat on the plastidip, let sit for a minute, rub off. Comes off really easily! Thanks!

Glad it worked out. I spoke from personal experience on that and I did a whole bumper.
