Exclamation Help! Convertible top not storing!

Hello I am a new owner of a used 2010 BMW 128i, the previous owner had let this car sit for months, I bought the car and I assumed this storing could be a faulty code/ sensor but it doesn't give me any codes. I've been unable to find any solutions online with a similar problem. I'm sure its small because everything works mechanically great. Here is a video I uploaded of the problem. The top opens and goes in but the trunk part wont close on it.

I appreciate anyone with the knowledge and time to help me with this repair.

Looks like it is not folding down correctly. I have an 09, the front part goes in folding with the top fabric facing the drivers wheel. Yours looks like it is just going in with it folding backwards and is missing a step to fold it.

Really should fold down a convertible top to test if it works before buying it, but the look is still nice in my opinion.

Looks like it is a serious mechanical issue that would cost a lot of money to fix. Dealers have to call in convertible top specialists, normal mechanics wouldn't know how to fix that

I'll look at mine and see how it goes down. With owning a few convertible before looks like its probably a microswitch that needs replacing. The top fold and goes in but once its in its not triggering the car to close the boot. Thats usually a microswitch but you'd need to find out how many are in the car and which controls what.

I Looked online to see the operation, and it looks the exact same. I think its a small issue because it completes 95% of the folding down steps.

there is a hall sensor and a microswitch, on the drivers hand side
they tell the "brains" the top closure module, if the top is stored,
if not, lid won't close,
the parts are relatively cheap and easy to get to

if you goto NEWTIS and REALOEM

you should find an indepth on the cab top.

this should get you going, I cant remember now if it's just hall sensors,
I'm trying for the love of mike to remember is there is a microswicth

am at work, so time it limited

this should get you going

BTW

it's a cheap and easy fix

I tried my best to find a hall sensor location online, but there just aren't any videos or images to assist me. I took pictures hoping you'll see what I mean, I tried looking for a wire or some sort of electric cable but everything is just the hydraulic lines. First two pics are the driver side second two pics are the passenger side. Thanks for your help.

Hi George, sorry for the delay but had to leave out of town for a few days for a funeral and didn't take a computer with me... I found this post about the hall sensors with pictures so I hope it helps. Might be the culprit for your issue. Good luck..

here's a link with pictures..
