Does anyone have an N55 head sitting around? I would like to know the diameter of the holes in the head for the M9 bolts...

  • Good cooling system pressure test

But...in addition, the engine made very odd "burp" under high load.

The best clue I got was that coolant tank smelled like combustion; there was really no need to test it further. It was obvious.

Findings:
Two completely loose head bolts at #6 (the M9 ones). At least one of these has threads completely stripped. I haven't determined whether the other is stripped yet or not.

Car:
2011 135i, 59,xxx miles, unmodified, build date 4/2010.

As far as I know it's never overheated. It's been problem-free (until now) for the 23,000 miles/6 years I've owned it.

I am contemplating the best remedy.
It would be interesting to see IF Broken135i car had a build date close to your car?

Often times there are screw ups in manufacturing which we never know about. But with the Interwebs we can trace these events down. Seems like some engine head bolt's weren't properly torqued from the two of your engines.

Broken135i it would nice to hear from you what your final outcome was at your dealer.

You could ship the car here and have a new rebuilt motor with warranty put in for less. https://www.ghassanautomotive.com/collections/all

Do you have to pull injectors to remove the head?

Also, any chance you have a parts list compiled of all the necessary gaskets, orings, seals, etc?

Yes, you will need to remove the coil packs and injectors to get the plastic valve cover off, in order to gain access to the head bolts. I think I would just pull the entire engine to be easier.

Im having a issue where coolant is gettin to the oil but at a slow rate, every 3 days i add enough to move from right under the minimum sign to maximum sign and i too have coolant coming out of the top of the expansion tank ; one thing is I don't have any symptoms period of headgasket except for coolant and oil mixing in the crankcase ive takenthe car to many shops and the cooling system held pressure for 30mins no foul sparkplugs, no coolant smell , no exhaust gasses in cooling system , no miss fire nothing. Im afraid to remove the head and it fixes nothing.

My car is a 2011 535i prod 01/2010 , im wondering if its possible i have loose head bolts also ?

If you're thinking it's a head gasket, I would do a leak down test first before tearing into anything.

I also wonder if this could be from the oil filter housing gasket.
