Y-Pipe Res Delete or N55 Mids
Trying to choose between buying a set of n55 Mids or buying the Y-Pipe resonator delete.. My current setup is Active DP with Berk Ceramic Race Delete.. i was wondering what i would get better sound deleting the cats or the resonator as i do not want to delete both.. The car feels a little bottled up on the back end with both right now looking for more flow out the back and more aggressive sound..
Also does everyone weld the Y-Pipe or Clamp it on?

Did you have it on the car and take it off?

I ran the axle back portion of the perf exhuast + the N55 mid-pipe for a solid 6 months and then added the y-pipe afterward. The n55 pipe offered noticeably better throttle response and the sound was awesome.
Fast forward 6 months and I had the Y-Pipe installed (clamped on) and it is a bit louder, I wouldn't say a massive difference but there is definitely a more throaty sound in the exhaust. There is more drone... But honestly the noise from the stock RFT's gave me more of a headache than this drone gives me, it truly isn't that bad. Cold-starts are brutal with the y-pipe now. I recommend both if possible, don't know how the N55 sounds on sound alone as it was installed the the perf exhaust axleback, but the throttle response was worth it IMO. Hope this helps. |

+1 with Y pipe sounds a bit louder, performance difference can't really tell, but I do know when I put an AA track pipe on my E36 M3 LTW, which deleted the cats, the difference was huge power wise, sound also improved, so I suspect removing the cats with a N55 mid pipe should provide somewhat of a performance increase, Y pipe is sold btw. This is the route im going with the n55 mids it seems like the cats put more restriction than the resonator does hoping to keep it somewhat tamed for everyday driving

I have n55 mid with berk street slip-on. I've heard it with the n54 mids with stock muffler and with berk, and just deleting the cats made it sound a lot louder a and I like the exhaust note better as well. Hardly any drone. Deleting the cats over the resonator is always a better choice.
