Summit Point, WV - April 4 - FATT

Ok!

Who's gonna be at Summit Point for FATT this friday? I'll be there with my 325i. I'd like to see some 135i represent though!

I will be there; but, I am torn about driving it. What group are you in?

I'm in the novice group. Honestly, I wouldn't drive it on the track either. That's why I have my e36. I'm planning on building an e30 pure track car and having the 135i for my daily drive. I'd just love to see some sport bred e82s around and talk to some current owners.

Novice group, 1A or 1B? How often do you get out there? If you don't have an instructor already, let me know and we can hook up.

I'll see you there. I generally park by pit out and get there very early because I have to cross the Wilson Bridge, so I try to make that around 6:00 and if I time everything right it puts me at the track really early.

I should be close enough to break-in miles. Seriously I decided to replace the Boxster S (DD) after taking the Audi to instructor appreciation day. Although it did not have a lot of power, it was a blast to drive and the logistics were vastly improved. Although the 911 is licensed, it is pretty raw on the road, and winter or summer are not so good without heat or air. The Boxster was fun on the track, but terrible for commuting because of the huge blind spots. I bought the car as my primary commuter car and to drive on the track when I did not want to deal with truck and trailer.

Also, I have no data points on RFTs and don't want to tear them up. Another set of wheels and tires for this car is not in the cards right now -- I just spent almost 5K on consumables for the 911. But that should get me through the year. The 911 runs 235/255 - 40-17s on 8's and 9's and the diameters are close to the same. If I could find some 17's in 8s and 9s for the 135 that fit I could swap tires.

The pads on the 135 look absurdly difficult to change, so I will probably not be swapping pads. It will be interesting to see how far they go before they fade. If they fade I will have to swap them for some HPS that I use on the other daily drivers. Not track pads; but adequate for occasional use.

It seems like I will have to drive it to collect the data I want.

I'm not sure what run group yet. I haven't checked the mail recently, so maybe the info pack is in the mailbox. I'll take a look today. I don't have an instructor yet though, so that'd be great if you'd run with me. Sounds like you have a lot of experience.

I've been to the track twice before, so I'm still somewhat green. Once was on the main circuit and once was on the Shenandoah. The other times I was driving my s2k, which was a blast. It'll be the first time for my e36. It's setup with basic handling upgrades and street tires, so it won't be amazing but I'm looking forward to learning its limits.

OK -- see you there. Your car sounds perfect for this event and your experience level. You would be amazed by what others bring to the track. I try to be somewhat circumspect about what car I get in.

The S2K is a cool car; but, I generally don't instruct in open cars. It always amazes me to see folks driving onto the track with their helmets sticking above the roll bars - S2K and Z3s. I put the Brey-Krause in the Boxster; but, I never ran it on the track with the top down (intrusion protection). Spear the tire wall and tires rain from the sky.

E82Pocketrocket and one of his friends from work in a MazdaSpeed 6 (I think). We all had a blast and both were great students who listened and learned quickly. A Viper student was not such a good student. Pocketrocket's 325I reminded me of how great a car it was -- no Nannies, great performance and balance and a wonderful sound. The day started out cold and wet and warmed and dried throughout the day.
