How to properly clean my windows??
Hey guys,
I just returned from a 3-week vacation and haven't cleaned the interior of my car in over a month. The front windshield had become visibly foggy and so I decided to make a go of cleaning it today. At first, I tried some windex with a microfiber cloth. It removed a lot of the fogging, but left oily-looking streaks that I could only see from outside, and with the sun shining on the glass. Not pretty. Then I tried my cousin's trick (he used to detail at BMW and has washed a couple thousand cars). This involves using crumpled newspaper instead of a cloth for cleaning the glass. In the past this has worked very well for me, but it seems that I was getting similar results. It's as if I'm now rubbing around whatever thin bit of residue is on the windshield. Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of what I can use here? Doesn't necessarily have to be a product, but maybe just a type of cloth or something handy I might have around the house? This is driving me nuts! Thanks for your help.. |

I always have a hard time getting my windows crystal clear, so I am interested as well. Multiple window cleaner rounds with a clear towel each time sometimes works well for me, but not always.

Cleaning glass
Three very popular glass cleaners as used by Autopians:
NXT Glass Cleaner; Stoner's Invisible Glass; Eagle One 20/20. All are good. I really liked the NXT (Meguiar's) but it is ridiculously expensive here in Canada. Combine these with a waffle weave glass microfibre and you will be successful. For the inside of the windshield (always a pain) I bought the GlassMaster device which is a triangular shaped flexible pad on a swivelling handle. It is awesome for inside the front and back glass. I hope that this helps. |

I use Stoners with normal paper towels with good results. If it's been a while and you have the thick film, do it a few times. FYI- don't use the end of the paper towel roll because there's glue on the last couple of towels to hold it to the roll. Ask me how I know this......

I've used several different glass cleaners over the years but I always go back to Stoners Invisible Glass + Microfiber towels.
Edit: I've only used the can, haven't tried the new spray bottle. |

I find when I use microfibers on my glass/mirrors that I can see the tiny fibers left over sometimes.

Invisible glass is amazing. I fully recommend it.
I use it with a microfibre. Never had any shedding issues. |

I use these without any cleaner
http://www2.dupont.com/Sontara/en_US...dow_wipes.html I use them on B737 and B757 and believe me there's a reason we use these

I have been very happy with invisible glass from the spray bottle and a small 12x12 microfiber cloth. I keep the cloth in a small zip loc bag so it is clean and ready to go. I do the same thing inside and out. The bottle of invisible glass I am using is supposed to leave a water repellant. I haven't noticed it beading up a lot but the glass gets clean easily/quickly.
I also have had bad experience with windex so I don't use it any more. Jim

Generally most people's problems with their glass care is mostly technique. If you follow our Detailing Guide for Glass Care you should see a big improvement quickly. Let me know if you have any questions.

just be careful with applying it to the outside of your wishield. If you spray too much on it messes with the wipers in a rain. I know that one through experience.

Little tip I learned...
Use a vertical motion on the outside, then a horizontal motion on the inside. You are able to see which way the streaks go, and can get the right side of the glass to clean. |
