That's true. I'm not sure if I've posted anything about it, but I had my white 2010 328i as a daily driver. I got an offer I couldn't refuse and sold it. Then I bought a silver 2007 335i and again sold it for a nice profit. Now I have a gray 2007 335i that I lowered on wheels, installed LEDs, etc. It's a fun every-day car. No performance mods.

+1! If I could make a suggestion, if you use a calendar to plan things out, stick time to work on the car on there. I do this for projects like this otherwise it just never happens lol

My buddy came over and finished pulling the motor on Friday night. I removed the twin turbos on Saturday morning to be shipped to their new owner. Sad, because they had less than 500 miles on them.

Then my finger slipped...

Yup, it's a generation 2 with 1.0 AR.

Since someone asked me "why go single now, after having upgraded twins" on another forum, I figured I'd post the answer here as well.

Mostly, I don't ever want to have to do all of this work ever again. Meaning, if one of the twins took a shit, I don't want to have to drop the subframe to R&R. Now I'll have one turbo that is easy to access and I have a 50% less chance that turbo(s) will shit the bed. The upgraded twins really pile in torque down low. While it feels awesome, it's tough on the motor. I don't want to replace another motor.

I wasn't "wowed" by the twins. They were definitely faster, but it wasn't "OMG CRAZY". I know I'll be sacrificing some spool time, but when the boost hits it's going to feel great. If you're after linear power with modest goals, I think twins are a good choice. But I don't want to be pushing twins to their limit just to achieve high horsepower. I'd rather put a larger single on and give it a lighter workout. I would still recommend the MMP twins, but I think I'll enjoy the single more. Plus, who doesn't like the look and sound?

Appreciate the feedback man. So what are you going to be wanting to drive around at day to day? Really cant decide what setup to go with myself. I really hate the idea of spending 4k for twins and inlets/outlets only to have the low end torque be undriveable and ultimately lunch the engine. Then a single kit is only $500 more, plus a little depending on the turbo itself, less low torque, and ability to just change the turbo more or less at a whim. Tough.

My stock twins are probably going to give up before summer gets here, so really interested in how this goes for you.

Something was left on my doorstep today! I'm honestly blown away by the quality and craftsmanship of this kit. The attention-to-detail is crazy. I've dealt with a lot of vendors on this platform and this was probably the nicest overall experience I've had. It shipped on time, came complete, and was packaged VERY nicely. I can't say the same about my previous expensive purchases. Super excited to get this installed for spring!

Curious, what made you go with Doc vs ACF? Trying to make that decision now.

Manifold looks great! Did it come ceramic coated or was that extra?

I'm not familiar with ACF, can't even find a link to their site for more information on their kit.

I went with DOC because they have a proven track record and offer a great kit at a good price, IMO.

ACF is the same kit as VM single which is the kit BMS seems to have gone with. They both seem to be proven, but cant find info on why some folks go with one vs the other if they cross shop at all.

Anything the Doc kit didn't come with that you wish had been included?

Ah, that's right. Forgot about the name change. I feel like Terry has been waiting on a manifold from them forever, and it appears they're out of stock online.

The DOC kit literally came with everything. I didn't expect it to come with a MAC solenoid or a turbo blanket, but it included both. The heat shield and turbo filter are nice too.

Great news. Never heard if any problems with the Doc kit. What made you decide to get the hot parts coated?

Yeah, Terry has been waiting for Anthony to send him one of the new bottom mount manifolds for like 6mos. Been watching the development of that one, it's been taking absolutely forever and I'm not convinced that a bottom mount will yield any benefits over the top mount options currently available and time tested.

In your research did you find a resource that easily explained how AR factors with compressor and turbine size?

They were running a special for free ceramic coating when I ordered. I figured it wouldn't hurt, but I'll still wrap the downpipe and use the turbo blanket. Should keep things cooler up top.

From what I have read, the 1.0 AR is perfect for power and spool. I was happy to hear that DOC ships their kits with Gen 2 turbos with 1.0 AR unless otherwise specified.

Pitty post.

YouTube just changed its monetization policy, now requiring 1,000 subscribers to be eligible for ad revenue. I’m only at 471 subscribers, can you help me by subscribing to my channel?

www.youtube.com/c/jakespence135

I promise it’ll be worth it! I have some cool videos on there about my 135i and will be posting tons of videos once I have my new Doc Race 6266 single turbo kit installed.
