ideally, i'll make the 1 the year round car and pick up a fun/summer/wknd car. something a little old school...i'd do some pretty illegal stuff for an early 90s 911 turbo

Funny this thread came up, I was seriously considering trading my 135 in for a new CTS-V yesterday. If that doesn't happen i'll be pushin a 996/997 turbo in a couple years.

CTS-V goes 0-60 in 3.9 with the automatic......that's unreal.

Next vehicle? Expecting it to be a diesel of some sort. A 1er hatchback or an X1 20d or 23d if we're lucky. If those aren't available, possibly a VW or Audi TDI if I start getting a sense that their long-term reliability has improved over what it was at the beginning of the 2000's. Something with a good balance of utility and fuel economy.
If by "next", you mean to replace the 135i? Why on earth would I want to do that shy of 10 years/100,000 miles? |

I was thinking about a mid-nineties Miata with a WRX drivetrain. 2200 lbs, 400 whp and all wheel drive. Some sort of body kit would also be required to reduce its Miataness.

From somebody who owns a "one off/transplant" car.. be careful what you wish for. Diagnostic trips to reputable mechanics tend to always run at least $1800 for anything. I've spent up to $3500 for diagnostic sessions. The receipts from the previous owner were of similar fate.

The intent would be to bring the complete Subaru drivetrain and electronics package into the Mazda body. That way any maintenance and diagnostics would be Subie specific and could be performed using existing tools and software. As far a the "reputable machanic" goes, he's the one doing the typing, along with the other guy that would be involved in the project. Another advantage of using the WRX drivetrain is that it is a well know quantity for both of us.
