Am I the only one that didn't realize that...

you can cancel your turn signal by pushing the lever (again) in the same direction you are turning? I never got the detailed vehicle overview from my CA when I picked up my 135i - and that may have been something he would have explained.

The first few times I used the turn signal lever, I would over correct when canceling my turn signal, and end up flashing the opposite direction (annoying and unsafe).

Anyway... it's a nice feature and I wish I would have realized it existed earlier!

I didn't know that either. I did set the signal so that it would give me three flashes when I just tap it instead of the normal one. It's great for changing lanes. Every car should have that option.

the blinker stalk on BMWs is a perfect example of over engineering. The "old style" worked just fine.

It doesn't matter which way you click it - they'll turn off.

And while I originally thought it was a bit overdone, after a month of driving, I prefer the one detent for 3 flashes/two detent for full on BMW switch over the 'regular' one in my wife's car.

Agreed. I much prefer BMW's setup now that I've driven with it for nearly 3 years.

I also like the feature of the 3 flashes for lane changes/pushing it all the way down to keep the blinker on, but for those that do not care for this function it can be turned off and the blinker can function like an "old style" one.

BMW started using the 3-blink setting with the push to cancel in the 2002 7-series.

GM has it on European Opels and Vauxhall's too, has had since at least the 2002 Vectra.

It takes some getting used to, but once you are, you get annoyed driving a car that doesn't have the 3-blink/full blink settings. My 545 has it (as does my wife's Range Rover Sport - although the RRS doesn't have quite as an "advanced" turn signal stalk as the BMW) - I had a rental a while back (PT Cruiser...and people wonder why Chrysler went bankrupt...ugh...) without it and I found myself blinking once when changing lanes. I guess one blink is better than most people give when changing lanes!

If this is a race to the bottom my Silverado has the 3 flash function as well though the stalk functions more like the old-fashioned ones.
