How do you SCAN MAGAZINES?

I'm trying to scan some E90 articles and get a very grainy image.

I've tried blurring the image some afterwords but it also starts to distort the text which I'm trying to avoid. Anyone know of any good ways of doing this?

You're at the mercy of the paper quality and thickness and the resolution of your scanner mostly. But try putting a sheet of thicker white paper behind the page you're scanning so the light doesn't "pass through". That should help with the saturation.

Oh. And scan at double the resolution that you want to use it at and then resize it down. It helps clear all those marks that you see. It's a thing that you have to do when scanning some sort of printed materials. I highly doubt it's the scanner's fault. Even a cheap cheap scanner can do better than that.

Someone must have a trick that makes the print screen dot matrix go away....
Its not a big deal for the photos that are seperate, but its impossible to fix if its text over a pictures background.

You can try taking a picture of the thing with a high mpx digicam instead. If done right, it can't be beat with a scanner.

What scanner do you have and what settings/mode/resolution etc. are you scanning at ? Is it some 'auto' mode or did you specifically choose 'color photograph' somewhere in your settings before scanning ? With my Canon scanner, depending on what 'mode' it's set at, scanning text and images together will give that pixelated look........

Usually in the scanner software they include Descreen function to reduce moire in the magazine. This function is made especially for scanning from magazine/printed materials.

I've thought about doing it. I need to look into software that can control my SD500 through the USB cable.

Its an HP officejet 7210.

That scan was at 200 DPI, no sharpenning, and auto color correction turned off.

I've tried that, it actually made it more grainy...

trying re-scanning at 600-1200 and then reduce the image size afterwards, it should come out much better......

I tired the 2400 one and the shrunk it down, but photoshop just made the grain finer, but still very obvious.
