I'd 100% go DCT whether on track of street, I miss my S65 DCT WOT shifts and the insane speed of gear changes....

I run a 2008 135i with a fricken 6AT tranny and put down fairly respectable lap times in CA with a ghetto built track car. With the XHP flash the tranny shifts fast enough for any of my track day needs. FWIW I run 1:56-7ish at BWRP and 2:00 at thunderhill although it's been years since there.

I see no reason to go 6MT unless it's mostly a daily, imiss the 6MT as a daily tranny but the DCT/6HP is amazing. Honest with any sort of tune the ZF is probably more reliable on track with proper cooling.

Also with an N55 id.look for an oil pan baffle like the m2... I've seen 3 n55 blow on track and I thrash on my N54 + no major issues in 4+ years.

The part about oil starvation is surprising....I thought the N55 had a sort of built in baffle. I see Bimmerworld (among others) sells a baffle for N54 but not N55.

The M2 n55 does have a better oil pickup system.

I have a 12 DCT and I track it a couple times a month or more. I really like it overall, but I’ve noticed some funky shifts here and there. I did change the transfluid and replaced with Redline and haven’t had an issue on the track, but it’s been cooler weather. BMS has that bigger capacity pan and I’ll prob do that as the increase in volume will help a bit. Can we put that m3 cooler on the 135?

I wonder if anyone here has tried this upgrade package from SSP? I'm sure m3 owners have, has anyone with the 135i DCT installed this?

I've seen that. Looks fantastic, though I think it is way overkill unless the car is being driven in endurance events. Plus, I have looked on realOEM to try and determine if other M3 DCT parts would work on the 135i DCT. However, it appears that the M3 DCT cooler hoses attached to a different place on the trans housing than the 135i. Plus, it looks like the M3 fittings between then hoses and trans housing are larger than the 135i. But this is all coming from what I could determine on realOEM, and I have yet to get under my car and try and confirm anything.

Yeah, I'm trying to find the Setrab cooler and bracket they show on the SSP site but no luck finding it as a stand alone yet.

Also keep in mind that the M3 DCT cooler is placed where the 135i's engine oil cooler is located. The e90 M3 uses a different oil cooler for the engine than the 135i and places it basically where our intercooler is located.

Since the DCT is water to oil cooled on the 135 a higher efficiency radiator is probably the easy way to add cooling capacity to the DCT.

The 6AT and DCT oil pans might be different, I am not sure, but the 6MT oil pans and design on the N54 and N55 are the exact same. Neither N54 nor N55 got any kind of baffle and the oil pan is relatively shallow for a performance car. N54 is just as likely to oil starve. There are countless threads from as early as 2007 when the car first came out of oil starvation at the track.

I have personally seen plenty of N54s fail at the track lol I've actually never seen an N54 able to make it through an entire 20 minute session, at an advanced level, without overheating and needing to pull off to cool down. The heat from the extra turbo on the N54 makes it a much more difficult to keep temps down.

The N54 6MT oil pan baffle can be fitted to an N55 pan. The variation between the two is negligible.

There is always the space on the driver's side fender well, symmetrical to where the Oil Cooler on the 135i lives. Based on where the oil lines come off the DCT transmission, that might be a good idea. Would just need to extend the coolant hoses over that way some more and fabricate a bracket.

Yes, I agree that is a prime spot. And I may go that route in the future. I have ordered the Slon Workshop DCT pan for now. I want to see what the trans temps look like before and after installation. If I think I need more cooling (which I don't think I will) then I will try and fab up an oil cooler and put it there on the driver's side fender well. I'm hoping the Slon DCT pan and CSF radiator will help keep the trans temps in a good range.

My point is that from what I read (few years ago at least) the N55 didn't need a baffle because the stock oil pan had one built in. No idea if thats really true or not.

No, it's not true. It has a different windage tray and oil pickup tube, but, the pan itself is the same. BMW used a lot of fancy wording in their academy docs that people misconstrued as meaning things it didn't. If you actually tear down an N54 vs an N55 you'll see both oil pans are the same +/- some small indents. Both pans are shit for performance driving. That's just reality not anecdotal experience of "well I've seen x car blow up." Don't knock the engine though, very few if any street cars have oiling provisions for performance driving. That is why BMW sells the M cars, GM sells track package cars, etc.

If anyone comes across a DIY of installing a CSF or any aluminum radiator on a DCT car, please let me know lol.

My CSF radiator has been sitting in the garage for over a year

Not exactly a prescriptive DIY but a good start:
