ECS Tuning Bait and Switch
1) the bait - everything is in stock with expected same day shipment.
2) I place the order on November 3 and get an order confirmation with expected shipping date November 3. My Visa card is charged. 3) November 4 I get an email saying "Sorry this is taking longer than we hoped." 4) November 6 I check my ECS account and the order shows as "Shipped". In ECS world, this just means a label has been created, and the parts supposedly picked. I check tracking and UPS doesn't recognize the number. 5) November 7 I contact live chat tech support asking when it will picked up. I get a non-answer to the effect check tracking again in a couple of days. 6) November 8 I call and speak to a rep. "Will be picked up tonight or tomorrow morning". 9) November 9, now after noon, UPS tracking still doesn't recognize the number and I have not had email confirmation that the order has actually shipped. 10) Sent an email complaint to ECS tuning, and got a pro-forma response: "Please know ECS Tuning is experiencing an increase to email contacts leading to response times outside of our standard. Your inquiry is important to us, someone from our team will get back to you as soon as possible" 11) Increase in email contacts? I wonder why? |

And probably tell you can return it but you pay a restocking fee or something! |

Haven't bought from ECS for years. They sold me flawed brake rotors twice and have since bought out a number of parts companies (or their owners have). Turner Motorsports, Pelican Parts, an old BMW parts company, (Bimmerparts?) and who knows what else lately. Pretty famous on BMW and Audi forums for promising and not delivering.

The aftermarket parts business is a tough business. I worked for one that specialized in marques I won't mention, in the interest of confidentiality. They developed their own parts, and they also pulled components from various sources to make kits of various types. There are many things that can go wrong in these types of businesses. One of the big problems was transit damage, for one example. All things said, I've been satisfied with things I've sourced from Turner, ECS and Pelican. Yes, there have been instances where they delayed shipment longer than I'd expected. Overall, I've found them more reliable than alternatives.

To their credit, ECS got back to me and did what was possible to move this shipment along. 1 week late it got into UPS hands and is currently scheduled for delivery tomorrow. ECS ate the shipping charges to keep me happy, and that seems fair to me.
