I'm at about the same mileage as you and decided to proactively change out the ignition coils (since FCP had a sale on ignition parts). Good call on checking the output seals (no leaks yet but would be good to know whether there was impending driveway-marking).

Have you already done the mickey mouse flange? Might be a good proactive maintenance item (I have one I carry around in my trunk toolbag in case of emergency).

I have not done the Mickey Mouse flange.
The car is about to be put away for the winter. It's on a long list I have for the shop when I take it out in spring.

Added a European Emergency Triangle to my trunk this weekend.
I first saw one installed at the Boston BMW CCA show this summer and liked the 'bling' it adds to the trunk.

I took out the parking spot lines from the original pic.

Thanks for appreciating the wheels. I love them.

Added a Hood Pad

For no reason, other than the car was made for one, I installed a pad under my hood.
Unfortunately, the pad came folded, instead of rolled, in its package and is badly creased.
I'm surprised that this obscure, unused, part is easily available online.

Probably because it is not just for sound deadening but is also for fire retardant purposes. As safety gear, it would have to remain available.

(fire melts stupid plastic clips, pad flops on engine and helps smother the fire)

hi! did the insulation help dampen the sound?

I also installed the underhood padding. Some parts are becoming NLA, so I've been panic-buying a few things before they disappear.

golfer23rm - I don't know whether the insulation is intended as a sound deadener or as a fire retardant, but I'm happy to report in my experience the padding is useless as a sound deadener. I installed the BMW euro air intake box a few years ago for the increase in intake noise, so I'm glad that the insulation has had no noticeable effect on engine noise.

I was told this by someone at the BMW parts department (back when they had actual parts experts who weren't just salespeople who drew the short straw). So he was talking out his ass?

(note, I didn't buy it there)

. . . seems like if it were safety related, it would have come with the car. I bought one from dealer w/ CCA discount - mainly as heat protection for hood. Does it do anything? I don't know.

There's a lot of safety equipment that's required on vehicles in Europe but not in North America, so the manufacturers delete it - the safety triangle and first aid kit, for example.

I would start with that fact that the E82 "Sound insulating engine hood" wouldn't fall if those clips were to melt. The pad is also held in place by 2 tabs on each side, 3 tabs on the leading edge, and is tucked into a flange on the trailing edge. It's designed to NOT fall on the engine. In addition, while almost certainly made out of flame retardant material, in no way is that material the same as that used in a proper fire blanket.

Also, it's called a "Sound insulating engine hood" and is listed under "SOUND INSULATING FRONT" in the parts diagram drill-down menu under "VEHICLE TRIM".
