Hm,
From what I've gathered so far, the 128i/328i have the following mods: 1. ECU Tune (AA tune or OE tune) 2. Exhaust (BMW Performance exhaust is probably your best bet) 3. Intake (stock airbox + high flow air filter such as a K&N or AFE + charcoal filter delete + perhaps a modified additional air inlet or the Euro airbox) 4. Lighter alloy wheels 5. Cat/muffler/resonator deletes (?) The first three might get you 10-15 HP all together? Has anyone actually successfully installed a three stage manifold onto their 128i/328i? I know quite a few have done it to their 325i + ECU tune and managed to achieve 330i HP/torque. |

I don't think BMWPE will give you any gains but your car will sound AAAWWEESSOME.
Don't go too crazy deleting stuff from your exhaust system otherwise you'll start to lose power.

I have the euro spec 125i N52 that puts out 215hp and 200 torque. I have also done a fair amount of research on sites like realoem about the difference between the 125i, 128i and 130i. Apart from the omission of the 2 adjuster units on the 128i, I cant see any engine differences at all, at least nothing that can account for the 45hp between my 125i and the 130i. I assumed that it must be software.
I was hoping to get one of the tunes for 128i thinking that it would net the same gains, but I am not too sure now. The engine must be capable of it but maybe something in my ecu software wouldnt be compatible. Anyone have any theories on this? |

You need to check the injectors, inlet manifold, and exhaust manifold. On N52s, you may not need to check injectors but N51 engines had the higher output 3 stage inlet but different injectors when I checked it on U. S. spec engines. The highest output N52s, in X5s, had the three stage inlet and a different exhaust than my 230hp N52.

Edit: found it, it says N52B30AF for the high output engines, and N52B30AE for the low output. Checked my 128 and unsurprisingly it's the AE low output version. Part numbers on realoem look like they're the same for the e87 130i and the e82 128i short engine and head. Last edited by wolfe; 02-08-2011 at 06:46 AM.. |

N51 and N52 Valve Cover Gaskets
I just received my Goetze Valve cover gasket in the mail today part # 24-30168-00/0 for a BMW N52. Does anyone know if it will fit my N51 motor? It states it will fit the OEM part # I entered which is 11-127-582-245 but I don't want to do this 5 hour job if they are wrong. Thanks for any help...

RealOEM shows the main gasket being the same part number, which makes sense. However, there is an additional gasket for the secondary air valve which you don't get with the N52 kit. I don't know how crucial it is for the gasket to be new. BTW this should probably be its own thread. |

not everyone has had the opportunity to get one of these cars right when they came out. But I will say I am glad to have bought mine even though its a bit late to the game.
