Don Crevier sold the business not too long ago to the Penske Group and so rules may have changed but with Burkhard you'll get a straight no bullshit answer

Either way you went out of your way to help. I truly appreciate it!

Just received a response from Aaron, he can do it and at a price that is inline with what all of you reported.

if nothing else, just take it to ltbmw. they're great people and won't really care where you bought your stuff.

if you feel froggy and want to do it yourself, you may want to grab an exhaust hanger tool from amazon/local auto store. see: http://amzn.to/JhCvbL

i've never needed a tool before. it's always been a simple matter of unbolt, spray some grease into the hangers while pushing it sideways a bit, work it (awwww yeah) and slide it right off (lubetastic). still do this, only with the removal pliers too because bmw seriously rapes those pegs into those hangers.

c/n: ltbmw is money, son.

if they want $660 to install the exhaust, then tell them you are going to charge them $560 to drop the car off, and then you have a deal.

Sure, if we agreed that I would pay them to cook it, and if I had made an appointment for them to do so. Most likely the grill would already be hot, they'd be cooking other things on there and the eggs would likely cause no disruption especially since it was a planned event.

The restaurant cooks the eggs for me, makes a couple bucks, and loses no ground. Sounds like a win-win for everybody.

Why wouldn't a dealer do the same? In fact, if I were the dealer I would recognize this as an opportunity and possibly offer a lower price to promote repeat business from this customer.

The business reason..... and dealers are a business with huge overhead, make profit on the sale of parts.. those profits enable a dealer with overhead to remain in business..

of course i agree that percentage of something is better than a percentage of nothing, to some dealers it is all a matter of principal i guess...

Here is what I have been told in the past - if they put on a part like that that wasn't purchased by them, and something is faulty or doesn't work, than they can't return it - since they didn't originally purchase it. So now they are out the time that it took for them to take the old parts off, and perhaps put them back on.

That may be true for an aftermarket part...BUT for a BMW part, any BMW dealer can put in a claim on the part, any where in 48 + 2, no matter where it was purchased, as long as you have an invoice showing the purchase and or installation of the part.
