Subaru STI engine might be installed in the upcoming FT-86
Motor Trend: Toyota FT-86 to be Powered by Subaru STI Engine..
http://www.ft86club.com/ This will be a close competition to the 1M when it comes out late 2011. ...perhaps ...If they can keep their initial quoted price of mid $20,000 in the US... |

Unfortunately, that engine has had quite a few reliability issues. I'm hoping that the 2012 STI and Toyota version use a new turbocharged version of the Subaru Double Overhead Chain-driven Cam motor that has just been introduced in normally aspirated form in the 2011 Forester.

I love the design of the car. Looks great overall. Just waiting to see how much legs it has.

There'll actually be a flurry of new car releases through 2011 now that the GFC is recovering around the globe...
I'm actually waiting to see the new Merc C class coupe which will be a direct competitor to the 1 series... So far it has it all over the beemer with the interior (based on the already released new updated C class) and if all the speculated print turns out to be true about offering both a TTV6 and the new TTV8 engine options, it'll end up being more than a match performance wise... Although that TTV8 AMG variant will probably end up costing as much or more than an M3. |

I agree - they'll probably have at least 2 versions with the STI-motored version going in the $30k's and a WRX-motored version (or even a normally aspirated version) going in the $20k's.

The guys on the toyota forums sound like we did (naive) when they mentioned the 1M. Only they might have more cause to rejoice lol.

I see a lot of sexy carbon and an exsposed FMIC. Have you driven it in GT5? Doesn't even remotely remind me of a german anything. It also is modeled after the AE86 in case you didn't know.

If this has a decent engine and handling that lives up to the original AE86 I think this car will be a winner. My guess is if the engine is really that good it will be competition with the 370z in price and performance.

I love the design and don't think it resembles anything other than a very tame version of the LF-A, which makes sense. I guess it resembles a 1SMC in that it has 4 wheels but that's where the similarities end for me.

I doubt Subarus flagship motor will make it into a Sub $30k car. My bet is it'll be just like current subaru setup. Base model gets a N/A motor, Then you have a mid-model with the WRX motor, then your top of the line (over $30k) with the STI motor.
