Hey everyone, I'm selling my recently acquired 135i M Sport. Only reason for sale is that after 10 years and 26 BMWs, I finally decided to go down to just one car, and picked up a 2017 X4 M40i last week. I'm hoping the X4 will do everything I need from daily car, fun car, vacation car, show car (eh), and it's nice to have a BMW warranty for once. Therefore, I'm selling my last two cars, a collector car ('95 840Ci), and this excellent condition 2012 1 series.

I was looking for a reasonably priced 6 speed for a long time, but when I came along this rare (1 year only) Marrakesh brown DCT car with full M Sport package, I couldn't resist. I'm super impressed with the DCT transmission, and it's not surprisingly smoother and faster than the new ZF 8 speed slush box in my F26 X4, even though that particular transmission is one of the best auto boxes out there. I'm going to miss this go kart for sure, but just can't afford to keep both the 135i and the X4.

Current mileage is 75,542. I don't think I've even put much more than a full tank of gas through the car in the 3 months of my ownership.

There are no mods on the car, other than one of the previous owners powder coated the wheels black, changed the tail lights to the smoked Euro tails, smoked side markers, and blacked out kidney grills with M colors. I have the original chrome kidneys and tail lights with the car. I only received one key with the car, but have all the books and manuals. I also have an new in box aftermarket charge pipe, in case you want to preemptively upgrade the stock plastic one (so far no problems). Maintenance-wise, I have only installed a brand new battery (largest capacity available for this car), and bought a OEM BMW car cover and OEM BMW sun shade.

However, with my asking price, you will also get over $1200 in parts that I have for the car. I have just purchased a whole bunch of parts to refresh the car, including plugs, coils, belts, tensioners, pullies, DCT fluid change kit, oil change kit, differential fluid kit, air filters, and everything you need to walnut blast the intake ports. The ECS Tuning receipt is pictured below, noting that I'm keeping the spark plug socket tool, and I've already added the fuel injector cleaner to the car (still in the tank now). Cosmetically, the car is in great shape. There is a touched up ding on the driver's front fender. The previous owner had the front bumper resprayed (not the best match in my opinion), and there appears to be some PDR work done on the passenger rear fender, as noted by a round plastic plug in the passenger door jam.

From my research, the original owner was a girl who leased the car in California (2 years), then an owner in Texas for almost another 2 years, and then the guy I bought it from in Missouri (just over two years). I do have the recent CarFax from when I bought it back in December available for prospective buyers.

As I just purchased it, I still have a loan on the car, but my credit union is great to deal with, and after buying and selling so many cars over the years, I can assure you the sale transaction will go smoothly. I'm fully willing to work with your hauler for pickup; shouldn't be a problem since we're all working from home now! UPDATE: I just sold my 840Ci today, so I am now in a position to pay the car off and get the title in-hand over the next few weeks. UPDATE: The car has just been paid off (4/10/20) so I should have the title in hand soon.

Yuppers! I think they only made it for 2012. I have buddy in the BMWCCA who's mom picked up a CPO 128i in that color a few years ago, and I was awestruck back then.

Since you guys are E82 enthusiasts...

These wheels do NOT come with the car, and they do not fit the 135i! But I figured I share my silly experiment with you all. These are a set of custom HRE C90 wheels made for a 5-lug E30 M3... they happen to be candy bronze, so I threw them on just to see how close they matched Marrakesh brown... Man, makes we want to have them re-barrelled to the crazy E82 offsets! Wheels with new tires are for sale if you know anybody with an E30 M3! ($3000).

Interestingly enough I find your rear brakes [esp hats] look perfect but that CCA 135iS with only 14,800 miles has very rusty rear rotor hats and the rotor surface not too great either. It's as if it's not been driven much and sitting in very humid conditions. Mine never looked that rusty.

On a related note, I just bought a CPO 2017 X4 M40i from NorCal... but before I found that one, I got one shipped here to look at through CarMax... I ended up throwing $800 out the window due to all the visible corrosion on the engine and suspension. It had been in PA for 6 months, and TN the rest of the time. 3 year old BMW effectively trashed due to one season on salt roads. So glad I passed on that one.

OK, so we all obviously have a lot more time at home these days, so I decided this weekend to do some work on the 1'er since the parts are just sitting there.

I figured I'd at least get the oil changed and the spark plugs and coils replaced, as it's a quick job (LOL). Gosh dammit I miss my old M54 and S52 powered cars. What a f%#@-show just to gain access to the plugs on these turbo cars! Anyway, all the plugs appear to have been original BMW plugs, and I assume the white potted coils were original too. Please note that the car had NO misfires, I'm just changing them preemptively as I have no idea the last time they were changed, if at all. Here's what they looked like (and I do have detailed photos of each plug as well):



But as usual, as you start getting into a car you haven't worked on before, and one that has been owned by others, you're undoubtedly going to find other deferred maintenance items. So, I have some good news/bad news discovered during the course of the spark plug/coil replacement. It looks like this car has a fairly old oil filter housing gasket leak that has soiled the front of the motor. Which peeves me off a bit, as before I bought this car, I asked the previous owner if the car had any leaks and he said no. Turns out it was just the plastic under tray holding all the oil. Always get pics of the motor and undercarriage with the pans off if you aren't getting a PPI!

So in addition to the drive belt and tensioner/idler pulleys I already have, I've just ordered both new oil filter housing gaskets, all new bolts, the two O-rings for the oil cooler lines, and the upgraded aftermarket aluminum cooling hose bung that goes on the front of the block. As usual, the retaining clips on the crankcase vent hose broke on the valve cover, so I ordered another one of those assemblies too (BMW OEM).

So after that mess, what's the good news? It appears that the valve cover gasket is dry all the way around, including all 6 spark plug wells. I suppose it's possible that the front of the cover could be leaking, but it's impossible to tell for sure with the residue from the OFHG leak.

In preparation for doing the OFHG and belts etc., I've now pulled out the intercooler (yes I was showered with 8 years of dirt, leaves, sand, and dead bugs trapped between the cooler and the bottom of the radiator!), the electric fan, and all associated air related plumbing. I may install the aftermarket metal charge pipe I have for the car too when I put it all back together, but we'll see.

I've also changed the air filter and the cabin filter, although the originals were fairly clean. I will also clean up all the plumbing pieces, intercooler, front of the engine, and under tray plastics.

So at this time, the only things left to do by the future owner (that I already have parts for) are the differential oil (I took a sample and it's still looks new), the DCT service, and the walnut shell blasting.

Wow. Beautiful car. And a well written and detailed ad, too. I can really appreciate all the extra work just in taking the underbody pics alone - not to mention all the maintenance items completed. The next owner is getting a great deal at that price IMO. GLWS!

Thanks man! Yea I'm kinda giving away the farm on this one, especially if you tally how much a spark plug/coil change, belt/tensioner service, oil change, coolant flush, OFHG repair, and general clean up would cost from an indy or heaven forbid, the dealer! But I hate passing a car on to somebody that needs lots of stuff done... These are BMWs, so there's always going to be something else to tend to, but I like to have all the obvious stuff taken care of. I can't tell you how much labor, parts, and cosmetic overhaul stuff I've done to my cars over the years, only to have the next owner be the one to enjoy it all!

Next round of parts have all shipped, hoping they'll be here before the weekend!

Unfortunately, I forgot to get a shot of the main gasket after I pulled off the oil filter housing, but it's clear that this gasket material (I would assume EPDM), is swelling only where exposed to coolant, not oil. Both gaskets were flattened and 'spreading' around the coolant ports. Fortunately, it doesn't appear that there was any oil/coolant cross-contamination happening. The blue BMW coolant was fairly clear, but you can tell it was old. I will be replacing it with new 50/50 BMW blue/distilled water.




Of course the plastic water bung on the block broke, but looks like it's been broken a long time, internally. New Aluminum version will be replacing it.


I was able to get a shot of the #1 intake port... it looks a hell of lot cleaner than I figured it would be. Now I feel 1000% better about not bothering with the walnut shell blasting.


Belt, tensioner and pulleys removed, cleaning up this side of the motor (doing the other side later, when the car is mobile again and I can get it on the driveway).


New belt, tensioner, and pulleys installed.


Oil filter housing and oil cooler attachment are all cleaned up and ready for installation when the parts come in next week.

BTW, for any N54/N55 mavens out there who are aware of the possible crankshaft bearing oil starvation issue after OFHG replacement, I will be following the full BMW SI B11 09 15 instructions to prime the oil system before hot start. Due to my simple service plans being up-ended by the OFHG leak discovery, I ended up draining the oil for a couple of days, and the oil cooler lines have dripped out too, so it's always scary on these motors doing a first start when you've opened the oil system up beyond a standard oil change; especially when you see a bone dry OFH sitting on the bench! Believe me, after a day's worth of reading nightmare N55 threads on the forums and the 100 page BMW N55 tech brochure, I'm scared but optimistically confident all will go well.

As per the bulletin and variations thereof, I will be pulling the injector leads to prevent fire-up, since my fuel system is still pressurized (no need to pull pump fuses). I will be taking extra precautions as well, such as pre-filling the oil cooler lines, and the oil filter housing before installing the new oil filter (with new O-rings of course).

I've been a 1er fan since they debuted and I custom ordered mine in 2008. This is by far THE best FS thread ever! I have the cash but I'm holding out (especially with the Covid-19 pandemic) for a F82 CF roof Comp Yas Marina sedan. I wish I could afford to have both. Keep the great info coming.
