N54 engine confirmed for M1 according to this article?
Just had a read of this article and it seems to strongly suggest them using the N54 for the M1:
"M has been chosen as the last refuge for this wonderful engine that started life as a lightly-turboed powerhouse for the 335i" http://www.carpoint.com.au/reviews/2...series-m-20293 |

This writer states it is a massage N54. But Scott has already warned us a few times that specifics have not yet been divulged, and every published report is therefore speculative. Nonetheless, what would you rather have: a derivative of the N54 or the N55? The N54 has a robust tuning after market and we haven't heard of many mechanical failures, whereas the N55 is more of an unknown. |

Off the top of my head, this would be the 6th or 7th review article from the 1M Ascari trackdays for the press, all based on experience from the passenger seat only.
It continues to amaze me how, based on one lap or so around the track, the reviews range from "not much different from a 135i, and a bit laggy at that", to "this will give an M3 a serious run for its money". |

N/A folks will find the mustang more appetizing while the F/I crowd will probably drool about the M1 or whatever it's called tunability. I'm an N/A guy

"there's no replacement for displacement", rings true time and time again.

Or give us a lighter car with smaller displacement and a fine tuned N/A engine...F/I is just a lazy way of making power. Reason why I got rid of the 1er it was very fast but just too easy to drive. No need to shift, just mashed the gas and that was it. I want my ///M peaky I don't want them to be good civilian cars.

That's the plan....I'm not in montreal for the summer so I sold the 135 took off for vacation and will get the E90 when I'm coming back. However I'm starting to look at the mustang let's put it this way for E90 M3 money I can drive a GT and an E46 M3 with some money left over for something else.

While I love the E9x M3, I'd probably go this route that you are thinking about. It's always nice to have a couple of cars and the E46 M3 could also be a track toy.

RS3, TT-RS, same thing too much money......I'd drive an RS4(or B8 S4) and a UR-Q or stage B5 S4....As an enthusiast I'd rather have more cars for the money then looking into luxury, bells and whistles. It reminds me of my honda days..I had an RSX-S if Acura would have released the DC5R(Type-R) I would have kept my RSX-S and mod it with Type-R parts.....the M1 and 135 seems to share the same powertrain etc. If you currently don't own a 135 yes the M1 is a good choice if you already have a 135I then just mod it....it's not worth loosing 10K trading in the already competent 1er who will probably share the same engine.
The WRX and WRX STI are a different story since they don't share the same engine nor the same AWD system(Haldex vs Torsen)...in that case it's worth the trade. But then again who knows nothing has been confirmed so far for the M1 1M M coupe but I'm not holding my breath since I don't expect a major departure from the regular 135I.

The best analysis was Chris harris he is a journalist that works for EVO magazine. He owns an E-92 M3. He asked questions that got the driver saying; thats what you can hear thats what you feel. So he asks it's a twin turbo six thats what you can hear. It feels like you have a LSD thats what you can feel. The brakes need replacing he complains about hot lap and in Lap. But ///M factory brakes suck ass on the track and i see the 1M coupe being no different. Change pads lines & fluid should be everbodys first modification

While there are differences in the AWD systems between a regular WRX and a WRX STi, Subaru does not use Haldex in their cars. Even a regular WRX (and other Subarus for that matter) have a 50/50 split AWD system.
