My 1er damaged during transport!!!

Here are some the pictures I took after taking delivery and I immediately proceeded to a dealer affiliated body shop. Not sure how the damage was done, but I sure felt bad for the car. The repair estimate came out to $5,700 (includes labor and parts). Since this is a military contractor (American Auto Logistics), I'm going to file through the contractor. If unsatisfied, I'll do it through the military claims office.

Specialist at the repair shop said that this is going to be a tough job considering that half my car is going to be ripped out (unibody, roof, windshields, etc). Time frame will probably be around a month, if there are no interruptions. Going to see if I can file for diminished value as well.

On a lighter note, I wonder if anyone makes a CF roof cap?

That really sucks. When I was coming back from my assignment in Germany in 2003 I was worried about my GTI but luckily nothing happened.

Did they tell you when it happened - i.e. on the truck to the port, while in transit or on the truck to the lot where you picked it up?

This wasn't a factory ordered vehicle. I finished my tour in Germany and the military contractor shipped the vehicle back for me.

They didn't tell me how it happened. I'm kicking myself in the ass right now for not shipping it through BMW, but that would've been a drive to Frankfurt and be stuck there because my squadron was on bare bone manpower.

That sucks that not a single person could have followed you to Frankfurt. I made that drive in less than 45 minutes one-way from Spangdahlem. It could have been taken care of in half a day and then back to business as usual. Your supervisor should have taken care of you on this one.

Was BMW going to ship it for free?

A similar thing happened to me, my 1er got wreaked at the dock. I got it replaced with a car that was on the boat over. Waited an extra 3 weeks, but I got 7K off the price of my vert.

Hopefully you can get your situation resolved. Just a question. Why didn't you bitch and complain at the dealer until they got you a new one?

BMW was going to ship it for free, but required way more documents than the VPC. *Sigh*

Here's the funny thing: I was stationed at a German base north of Spang, and even then, I had to pull teeth with supervision to have someone pick me up from Spang. They knew that I was shipping my vehicle three weeks in advance. I couldn't even begin to imagine if I were to have the vehicle shipped from Frankfurt. Unfortunately, at my old shop, SSgt is just a well paid SrA.

I would have them take a decent amount of money off the car even though they will fix it (invoice or lower), or would be waiting another 6 weeks for a 1er without damage being fixed before even getting the car...

Hopefully you can get things worked where everyone's happy...

GEE, That really sucks, I am so sorry for you.
I think a good body shop could fix it without major work?

Good luck with the repair. Definitely pushed for the diminished value, that should be significant with the amount of work that is going to be needed.

LMAO! Thanks, Keith! And yes, hopefully when I claim the diminished value, I can use that money to get myself something nice.

According to the estimator, major work WILL have to be done simply because of the location of the damage. If the unibody didn't get damaged, then it would've been much easier.

That makes sense, I thought he was talking about European Dedlivery...

Diminished value is definitely a good thing to work for. Especially on repairs to structural parts...

I was running day shift as a SSgt at Spangdahlem. Either way, your shop chief is supposed to be there to take care of you. They majorly dropped the ball on that one.

Feel Bad for you Cris, that blows.

I gotta call BS on you MadMan - 45 min from Spang to Frankfurt? Was it like 0200 and you didn't care about getting a ticket? You know some magic route?...

Nope. It was about 1000 and was following an Audi A8 in my '01 GTI in the left lane going about 150 until I hit the speed zone just outside of Frankfurt.

Of course this was in 2002.

Times have changed. These days, with all the speed limits, it'll take you about an hour and fifteen to and hour and a half from Spang.
