BMW e87 fuel gauge stuck when engine off

Hi, I have a 2005 BMW E87. When I turn off the car, the fuel needle doesn't go to zero, so, at the next start it will have an offset.

The problem can be temporarily fixed by reconnecting the battery, which makes the needle go to zero, but after a few more engine shutdowns the indicator still maintains the offset, not going to zero after the engine is off.

I'm having a hard time determining what's the problem. Can anybody help me with finding the culprit?

Thanks!
