Sales Manager says minimum $2k down?
I'm supposed to be signing for my 128 tonight (well, beginning the credit approval process) and I was just told today by my salesman that the sales manager sent an email out today saying that all NEW cars sold had to have $2000 down.
Is there ANY reason why he/she would do this? I can understand a $2000 MSD, but down payment? Am I being dicked around? Should I go elsewhere? FYI, I'm leasing a new 128i Coupe with sport package, produced next month (so not purchased off the lot). |

Does he mean as a deposit to order it or downpayment to go towards to the lease? If its just a deposit thats pretty normal, I put $2k deposit on mine, but I owe $2150 on signing (first month, admin fee's, security deposit) so I'll only owe $150 when I sign.
If its a down payment on a lease I'd say F'u and walk out putting money down on a lease doesn't make much sence. |

I asked "do you mean a security deposit or a down payment" and he said a down payment. It really DOESN'T make any sense, I'm starting to get ticked. Anyone else think I'm being silly, is this a normal request?

Forget it, I just called another dealer and he was like "I don't know why they'd ask that, come by here and I'll give you a better price than they are." I don't care for games so that's what I'll do, easy sale for the (more) honest guy.

Good!
Can't stand BS like that...They really do assume they can screw everyone until its too late. Just don't trust the new salesmen too much, he'll try to take you for a ride if he can too! LOL |

I just found out my good buddy has been working with the general manager and marketing manager (at the new dealer) for the last couple of years, he's going to call and let them know I'm a friend and coming in to buy. Hopefully they want to make an easy sale.

New salesperson offered me about $13 less on my monthly payment with the same rate, term, residual, down payment, and inclusions. So that works out to about $500 more off the price when calculated backwards.
First thing in the morning, I'm walking into the first dealer, telling him "here's what I have on the table, you can beat it or I walk, I'm not putting any money down." If he says it won't fly I'll go buy from the other dealer, plain and simple. Thanks for your feedback, I'll keep you guys posted! |

At this stage, I'd just go ahead and buy it from the second dealer. Seems like he's a more honest, and he's giving you a better deal too... the first dealer was BSing you which I consider enough to make me walk.

Agreed, the only thing I'd be doing with the first dealer is sending him an email to relay to his 'sales manager' that they lost a deal due to his stupidity.

I'd still go stick it to the first dealer for fun...
Remember, they need to beat the second dealer's offer, and make it sufficient that it is worth your time to go back to the first dealer... I'd say that would bean $250-500 additional off... which would be another $13-26 off per month (and no downpayment of course). |

Screw the first dealer altogether, I just got approved for the lease at dealer #2, I'll let the first guy call me and I'll tell him I don't want to do business with his dealership. Thanks for the push in the right direction guys
