Very nice and welcome.

On a side not, how did you manage to get Bitburg plates? I had to stick with those stupid little USA plates over there and hated being the conspicuous American driving around.

How long ago was that? It is my understanding that it was a recent change (last year or two, maybe?) that they started giving out regular German plates to the military folks.

Thanks for all the compliments

MadMan77,
They have stopped issuing the USA plates. Turns out they painted a nice target on your back... I'm not sure when they stopped, but I've been here 2 years and never had a set of the USA plates.

Yeah, This was back in 2003 so I guess things have changed a bit.

That was my point exactly. They tell you to not look like an American and to blend in. Kind of hard when jumping into a car with USA plates on it.

Or when you're one of the many goobers jumping into a huge Dodge Ram.

Well, that definitely was not me. I had a beater BMW 325i and then a VW GTI when I was there so at least the car fit in.

I do know what you are talking about though. Nothing like driving around monster trucks in Europe and then complaining there isn't anywhere to park it...
