Sales Tax lowered in NY

Well go notice today that sales tax is being lowered from 8.625% to 8.375% on Jun 1. Does anybody know if my taxes will be lowered? I got a lease but won't take delievery of the car until after Jun 1.

Sounds to me like you should pay the lower tax. Then again I don't know tax law, just common sense.

I'm in Long Island where the sales tax rate is 8.75%. I'm scheduled to take delivery of a 330i on May31st, so if the rate gets lowered June 1st. I'll be

Ok i got off the phone with the dealer. She said I pay watever sales tax is the day of "delivery". So If it is Jun 1, i get the sales tax of June 1. If I was you call the dealer and see if you can pick it up the day after if it applies to you.

According to that it is the city tax being lowered and you in Long Island it won't affect you. I believe Nassau and Suffolk uses a different tax.

I had to read your post again cause I thought I was dreaming the first time Amazing, the price of something is actually going down in the city?! They must be making up the revenue from somewhere else This is the general sales tax you're referring to?

I think Mayor Bloomberg might have something to do with this. He at one point was the most hated man in NYC. Making taxes all crazy. I think a while back he lowered property tax and now I guess he lower sales tax. Money talks.

My dealer is playing hardball with me...they need to "move" the car by the end of month so the CA can make his numbers. Besides, I think the lowered tax rate is only applicable to New York City, where as I am in Long Island/Nassau County. Thanks for the thought though...

city and new state tax is going down 1/4 of a point, all NY metro commuting areas (nassau and suffolk) are going down 1/8, (If you live on Long island the tax difference will be miniscule, usually less than a dollar a month in your payments. )

Yes they are getting revenue from somewhere else. It`s called Westchester Property taxes  $12,500 to $22,000 in less than a year. Go Bloomberg you are doing something better than the idiots we have running our County.

These higher rates are going to pay for schooling in the City, and yet Yonkers a city in Westchester is bankrupt and will not be receiving State funded aid.

Sorry for the rant but my posterior still hurts and all i can do is put ice on it to ease the sting.
