My 2002 325Ci uses 5w30 full synthetic. I always had it changed around 7500.

Do we know what oil the 135i is using?

I was going to do my first change at around 2,000 then 7500.
Then change as I did with my present car every 7500.

Is an oil extractor ok to use for the DIY oil changes?
And how do you tell if the oil is low in the 135i if there is no dipstick!

Sorry, many questions guess im truly an Addict now.

The same 5w30 synthetic BMW's been using for the past 10 years.

Since there's no dipstick, there's nowhere to put an extractor.

The engine has an oil level sensor in the pan.

What about buying the oil and filter from BMW dealer and having Jiffy Lube change it? Will changing oil early cause BMW service to be pushed back to 20,000 due to engine reading new oil? In my Mini Cooper S, the dealer refused to change oil early even if I paid for it. Should oil be changed at 1,000 miles? After that, I'll do every 7,500 miles.

Does BMW have an approved oil list? VAG has a very strict list with specifically approved oils. If you do do your own oil changes its important to keep excellent records of oil purchased including the date mileage on the car and the type/brand of oil used as well as the filter.

Unless they've changed the maintenance schedule, BMW will do a free oil change once a year if the mileage doesn't warrant a service. Also there is a difference between an "Oil Service" which involves a number of checks and currently runs about $250 ~$300, and an "Oil Change" which is around $100. Under the free maintenance, if you prefer not to wait the ca. 15k miles for an Oil Service", your dealer will do an "Interim Oil Change" for the $100 charge.

Since the charge for 7 quarts of BMW 5w30 synthetic and the BMW filter is around $70, I fail to see any advantage in buying the parts and then going to Jiffy Lube to save $10 or so.

Nice, I was comparing oil changes costs between my current car and the expected costs of a new 135...if I could find a place to do it for $50 or so, that would make the 135 oil change twice as much as my Honda, but I would do it half as often (3000mi/3mo for the Honda, about 5-6000 mi for the 135 based on what other people posted for their own oil change intervals).

BMW Magazine has an ad with BMW using Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow. Is this the recommended oil? Thanks for the oil change tip, Tom. I'll go at 7500 miles.

I'd put my car up on boards in my driveway before I ever took it to a 'quick lube' place. Fortunately, I have a lift at work I can use.
