Exclamation

I was trolling around YouTube and found these cool factory videos of Leipzig. I thought I would share them with you guys & gals.

Leipzig builds the e87, e82 and e88 one series. And also all X1 series cars. They no longer build the 3er there. And soon… the new 1M.

The Leipzig Factory...

X1

Press shop stampings to final production assembly of the X1…

Since all the "chosen ONES" are at Leipzig today - testing the new 1M... I thought maybe a look again at the Leipzig factory is in order. Today it is raining all over Germany. So they should be having some fun on the "test" roads.

It's incredible how clean and well maintained they keep that factory. It's no wonder they churn out incredible vehicles, how could you not be proud to work there?

Hahahhah... I thought I made that clear in my post... those pictures are BMW's press photos of the Leipzig factory. They are not my photos. Mine are after those.

Germany being Germany... with all its rules and laws... you can not take a photo of someone without their approval. That is one reason why they won't let you take cameras into the factory. The other concern is of spies from other car makers - coming to see and document how BMW makes cars. So... no cameras are allowed.

I thought those press photos were really nice... so I posted them and put BMW AG next to each photo.

I'm really surprised they allowed you to take photos inside the factory.

The photos of the inside of the factory are from BMW AG press dept. I thought I made that clear before. That is why I labeled the photos: BMW AG

BMW only allows photos in their lobby.

Arrow BMW Leipzig plant will close down from Dec, 24th to Jan, 22nd

Hey Guys,

I just got an email back from Leipzig Werk. While they can not tell me of their future model plans (ie when the 1M will finish production and the life span of the e82/e88 series)... they did give me the dates that the factory will be closed for durring Christmas winter break. Its longer than I thought.

Here is what they wrote...

The BMW Leipzig plant will close down from Dec, 24th to Jan, 22nd as we prepare for the BMW 1 Series 5door hatch (F20).

The F20 production in Leipzig will start in March 2012.

I think it's amazing how they have the cars traveling on the assembly line over the cubicles and through the building for all to see. Amazing! Thanks for the pics

New old photos of Leipzig Werk...

Hi Guys,

I was poking around the web and stumbled across these new(to me & hopefully you!) photos of Leipzig Werk. Although they are some what dated in that they show the old e87 being built... (F20 production has started in Germany)... these pictures do show some good details of the 1er's being built.

Enjoy,
Dackel

I'm going to be in Leipzig in early August and have contacted the factory for a tour, if they're open.

What else should I do while in Leipzig? Any good restaurant recommendations?

Downtown Leipzig is very pretty. Kind has an old school French charm to it with some of the walk in malls and coffee shops. It really surprised me how much I liked the "Alt Stadt" of Leipzig.

Also... Porsche produces cars near the BMW Werk. You might look into a tour there. BMW's LEipzig Werk is the best most modern factory. You will get to see the X1 and 1er being made.... as well as the new i3 and i8(soon to start production).

a bump for an old thread... but still a cool one. Maybe some of you guys have not seen the factory where your car was born.

I also think this German ad is funny... (it says: a MB can also bring driving pleasure!)
