Hey guys, so to cut a long story short, I paid BMW did the full retrofit for me, minus the headlamp washers as they are not required over here.

The footwell module did need to get upgraded to FRM3 though as they said the lights were flickering and going crazy without it...

Need to post some proper pics when I get a chance, but no errors at all! So happy with them but damn it was expensive.. Worth it though, has completely transformed the car! Also the DRL option is coded into the car now!

Here's a quick small teaser:

I see you picked up the LCI lights, too! Are they adaptive also?

If you are doing it from halogen conversion, get your dealer to look up xenon retrofit install kit, front headlight (right + left) Bi-Xenon, and FRM3 footwell module.

Also the headlights don't come with any bulbs. Which is fine as you can take out the indicator bulbs from your old headlights, but you'll need to buy 2 x H8 bulbs for the Angel eyes (which the dealer can also get you..)

More pics when I get a chance to take

I was not planning on getting the dealer to install, so ordered Bi-Xenon. Besides, Adaptive seems more hassle, with chance of adaptive motors failing etc. in the future too. Not to mention it's slightly more expensive, but that wasn't the main deciding factor.

So they're non-adaptive then, correct? Is the inner light assembly used for a high beam or flash-to-pass? Or, is it only a running light?

Yep bi-xenon Non AHL as they say.

There is no inner light (used for high beam/flash at least)

Both high beam and flash uses the xenon low beam , with a bixenon shutter which flaps when you flash/activate high beam to let more light out, basically altering the cutoff to do so.

The inner bulb you see in the inner projector is used for the angel eyes (H8)

Yeah there is no retrofit for the new LCI lights but most steps are the same.. The only thing it doesn't have is wiring for the eyebrow..

I have rewired and installed the Xenons in my car but have'nt able to recode the ECU. Keep getting issues with NCSexpert which is a real pain in the %^& to use.

Also, besides the code that they throw they get the flickering which I thought the new ground wire would eliminate.

I'm pretty sure the flickering is because you haven't made the coding change(s) yet. Even with the extra ground, the car doesn't know you have HIDs installed.

Yeah perhaps the Cold/Warm bulb checks need to be coded out? Or adding a capacitor maybe

Well I coded the $522 with NCSexpert to CAS and FRM but still the error codes get thrown and the flickering continues.

Really have run out of ideas now.

The error codes it throws are CC ID 128 and 130 which are L/R main beam headlight failure. Strange

Now I re-did the VO coding in NCSexpert and now the low/high beam xenons work without flickering but I have lost the angel eyes (side lights).

The error code it throws now is 378 and 379 which are:

Side light and DRL, left, defective

Turning light left, defective

At least I can now drive at night without the close encounters of the 3rd kind light show happening.

Actually I got the code definitions wrong.

Its the daytime/side lights = defective L + R. CCID 378 + 379

The high beam function doent work either but doesnt throw a code.

I managed to remove the $522 and have ordered the OEM xenon wiring harness. Hopefully it is just a case of the wiring but if not I will try to replace the FRM. By the way, what was the part# of the FRM3 you ordered? According to Realoem my car doesnt have the frm2 option (09/09 build) so I might not need to buy a new module (hopefully). Also, do you know if the FRM modules are different for adaptive and non-adaptive?

FRM3 should sort you out. I didnt check the part no, but there's only one FRM3 for our cars afaik. Your parts department should be able to find it for you. I saw it on RealOEM too. Will try find the no for you.

Sounds like you need to code out some VO's though and disable some options. I know that's vague though.

I just did some more work with NCSexpert and it says I already have FRM3 as my NFRM module. But from what I understand a fresh FRM would work better for the retrofit hence why BMW say it is neccasary.

If you could do me a big favour, could you take a photo or draw a diagram of the connecter on your new light harness and post it here?

The reason is that I think it is quite different to what I have with my wiring setup. That retrofit pdf a few pages back seems to only have a wire on Pin 1, 2, 5, 6 and 9 to 11. So pins 3 and 4 arent needed, according to that bmw .pdf

I think it might be

pin 1 - tagfahrlicht - AEs
pin 2 - ground

Pins 3 + 4 ????

Pin 5 - Xenon
Pin 6 - Shutter???

9-11 blinkers etc.

Hopefully if that is the case, the retrofit harness should sort out the flickering. removing pins 3 and 4 might be a good test.

EDIT: This what the retrofit instructions suggest the wiring connection must look like.

This is a bit weird as there is no pin 6 on my xenon headlamp connection but there is one on the car/frm side

I have successfully retrofited bi-xenons with AHL in my E90 LCI.
Here is wiring for headlight socket.

The only difference is that you don't need pin 7 for LED side markers.

Of course the xenon option and adaptive must be added to VO.

Pin 3 and 4 are needed for halos headlights and for xenons too. Do not remove them or you will lose your main beams.

Good luck
