Chances of a bare bones M1?

Based on what seems to be the statement BMW is making with the M1, what are the chances of a trim level that offers no creature comforts?

In a perfect world, I'd like one that has one Heat, A/C, and a basic radio with an ipod jack. I'd even prefer manual windows and door lock, but that is obviously never going to happen.

Any potential for an M1 Track spec that LOWERS the price, not raises it a la M3 GTS style?

The Genesis 2.0 R Spec comes to mind, Hyundai has something nice to offer with that thing.

Unfortunatly this is just like asking Ferrari to make another F40. Its all about image now, the luxury gt image, and thats what all of these cars are becomming.

I doubt you 'll ever get manual windows or locks. But You might be lucky and get one without iDrive or power seats.

BMW has made bare bones versions of M cars. One such vehicle was the 1995 E 36 M3 LTW (lightweight) which I was fortunate enough to own for 6 years . BMW stripped down the car, no air, no radio, no tool kit, cloth manual seats/, no soundproofing, no sun roof. But they charged $10,000 more as it was a limited production vehicle.

All the E 30 M3s basicly came optioned the same, only the exterior and interior colors varied.

Since there is no talk of a factory 1 series racing vehicle, the bones won't be that bare.

The M3 CSL (e46) had no heated seats or nav options. Radio and air conditioning were options, and not included on the base car. There was also reduced weight via sound deadening and trunk refinement (trim) omissions.

The e36 M3 Lightweight was similar, and the base car omitted radio, A/C, rear seat, sound deadening.

I highly doubt that the M1 would eschew with those creature comforts, but it's not totally unheard of. Also, all of those CSL/lightweight cars did still have power windows.

There won't be enough time in the E82 M1 lifecycle to produce a CSL version, but I could see an F20 CSL or USA specific LTW edition come out especially if this car becomes popular on the track/auto-x.

In June of '96, numerous (at least 3) dealers in the SF Bay area had M3LTWs for sale, some with 2 or 3 cars. Very few (less than 200, I believe) were brought to the US.

Without A/C they were not so practical as road cars, in summer. I had mine retrofitted with the A/C from a wrecked M3 by a local BMW shop here in the area, you could not tell it was not factory installed.

It was a fantastic road car, I miss it. Except for the Porsche Cayman S, it was the best handling car I ever owned. I sold it for an E46 M3, mistakenly believing more power would make me happier. I was wrong. Which is why I am not so concerned about whether the M1 will have 400 HP as some others hope. If BMW gets the steering, handling, trackability, and road feel right, I will be satisfied.
I know where you are coming from. I have a 95' M3 right now that I've had a hard time finding a replacement for. To be honest, the Genesis coupe is most aligned with what I want in a car these days. . . simple, LSD, RWD, and reasonably priced. The M1 is a little more than what I wanted to spend, but I'll certainly go for it if it ends up being spectacular. If anyone can get creative with power delivery and turbo power being delivered N/A style, it's BMW. I'm optimistic.

this request reminds me of the EVO RS. no ac, no power locks, windows, spoiler, just lighter cheaper Evo, built with a racecar in mind.

they only sold them in white and red, i have not seen many around.

Whats the expected lifespan of the E82 M1 or 1M or whatever BMW decides to call it?
