I originally voted for orange but now think it would be more classy in the original OEM silver. Or an orange ring with silver lettering?

Also I think "BMW Motorsporst Limited 1 Series M Coupe" should be written from left to right. The way it is currently laid out you have to read upside down. Just my 2 cents... Plus I'd be willing to pay up to $50 for this

Definitely in for one, with whatever the majority decides for the wording. I would prefer the same color/look as the OEM part though over any of the color choices.

The problem, as I see it with "1 of 740" vs "One of 740" is that "1 of 740" implies it's the first car of 740, whereas "One of 740" does not.

And, the "One of..." phrasing follows along with the "Year One of the 1" rings on the first model year 1 Series cars.

So you are suggesting a "painted" trim piece? Painted interior trim pieces that don't get touched ten times a day hold up OK, but the START/STOP button? I don't think that would work out to well, JMO.

It would be made with a high pressure injection molded quality ABS plastic with the lettering(not engraved). This will give a very high quality OEM type finished look. There is several finishes to choose from(gloss, matte, textured 1 and 2). Colors options are endless. I have narrowed it down to a few I think could work with the interior of the 1M. The process is complicated to make an exact piece and the mold alone is in the thousands in order for it to look and fit perfect! I obviously don't want to lose money doing this endeavor and would be happy breaking even with shipping cost or making something for my time(trust I won't get rich doing this and my day job pays much better) If there is little or no interest, no hard feelings, I will just make one single one for my car. I don't think BMWUSA will do anything like this for us, so I thought I would take the initiative. Even if they do you will be out a small amount of money, but will still have a custom 'colored' trim piece that some make like more anyways. So help me figure out what type, color and cost you guys are willing to pay for this.

Multiple choices in the poll are encouraged, one for each area of interest.

Metak, thanks for doing all of the legwork on this. I am one of the ones who voted "no". Since it is not something that came with the vehicle to begin with, I wouldn't want to add something "non-stock", but I do think it's a great idea. I do really like the metallic finish with the engraved look, though. Quite sharp.

I'm in if you flip the text order around. As in, BMW 1M Coupe etc... on top and One of 740 at the bottom so they are both oriented right side up.

Not to undermine Metak's great work on a item that I will purchase regardless of its final iteration, but it occurred to me that a customized start screen on the NAV system might be cool. I doubt it's feasible though.

I'm surprised one of the poll choices isn't silver or aluminum to somewhat match OEM. I'm more concerned about the color/finish than I am about the details of "1" vs "one"

May not be as difficult as one thinks. On my E39 M5, we had a fellow member on the M5Board do this. It was a custom start-up screen on the DVD-based NAVs (displayed "M5" followed by a logo graphic with pic of the car, it was awesome!) He did incorporate even more options, where you can choose the voice to be with a female british accent narrator LOL (though it was probably a hack from the British cars as she referred to traffic circles as 'roundabouts' and told you to make a "U-turn" instead of the US version's "Make a Legal U-turn".

Here is a thread that describes it. Not sure how easy it is on our generation NAVs though.

Red face I tried...

Well, only 99 respondents and 10% not interested at all in the starter trim. 1/3 want orange and another 1/3 want the gray, finally, 1/3 are willing to pay $50 for one. Seems like I could maybe make 30people happy with this project. I really thought there would be more interest. Well, I will have to go with my back up plan if BMW doesn't come through and just put in this. Arrived via FedEx from DE today. With my "french" style numbered window sticker, this will have to do!

It will look good with my custom alcantara 1M steering wheel trim. (work in progress).
