Just like pimpin, disassembly is easy. Besides, we've got to take advantage of the weather while it's still warm.

I guess it depends on your perspective. When asked the question "is pimpin easy?" my response is "hell yeah!"

The motor was disassembled last night. Here's what we found:

- All connecting rod bearings were excessively worn
- All main bearings were excessively worn
- Except for #4, the connecting rod journals measured 0.005" under the minimum tolerance
- #4 measured 0.015" under minimum tolerance (this was the mis-torqued connecting rod)
- Abnormal wear on the # 4 cylinder wall at the bottom of the travel
- Rust and abnormal wear on the #3 cylinder wall
- A crack in #3 cylinder sleeve 2/3 the length of the bore
- 3 pistons with compression ring gaps lined up
- stuck (immobile) oil control rings on all pistons

Some pics may be posted later.

Weekend activities on the car included cleaning up and repainting the front and rear cross members, stripping the interior out (except for the dash) and vacuuming a year's worth of rodent droppings. I need to get the car moved inside tomorrow before it rains.

It's the picking up part. Thanks for helping on Saturday! How's the new roomie?

Supposedly 65000. It is possible. The guy I bought it from admitted to running low on oil and the spun bearing. The crank and bearing damage was not unexpected. The crack in the cylinder sleeve was unexpected and pretty much turns the block into a paperweight.

The car got moved inside this afternoon, the dash was removed and two more (uninhabited) rodent nests were found. It's stripped to the point where it's ready have the frame straightened and and go to the cage builder just as soon as I can get some suspension back under the car. At this point, I'm held up on parts, but expect most of what's needed to show up during the next week. I'm also expecting a new short block by Monday, so the motor should be assembled by the end of next week. I should get some pics posted tomorrow.

How the hell did I miss this thread, Mike? Great project, although the meathead who previously owned both the car and the spare motor are of questionable background.

Looks like you're gonna have fun this off season. Pretty envious!

Today's project... Cut a hole in the roof. The vent will get mounted tomorrow.

The car came out of an auction in Chicago. We don't know any of the details surrounding the accident that totaled the car. However, this will be the second time that the car has been rebuilt. There's a police inspection sticker on the driver's side rear door that identifies the car as a rebuilt salvage.

As for the guy that the spare motor came from, he was upfront about running it low on oil before I bought it. The bearing wear was not a surprise. The crack in the cylinder wall was, however. I'm pretty confident that he had no idea about that. The other surprises were the stuck oil control rings and the alignment of the compressions rings. The motor had to be burning quite a bit of oil and the compression had to have been low in it since day one.

So I got motivated and installed the vent. Some help would have made it quite a bit easier.

Looks good! Like a cyclops Batman, with the red outline.

What did you use to weather seal the vent? Rubber gasket or caulk? Are you going to feather the joint in?
