Cool Exoticspeed S1 Exhaust w/Carbon Fiber Tips Revealed/Review N54 N55

Review:

There are so many exhaust system out for the n54/n55 platform that it's hard to sometimes decide on which exhaust system has the best sound, best performance, best design and best price. I found this exhaust system believe it or not doing a search on Ebay. It was listed as a N55 exhaust system and I contacted the manufacturer who happens to be in Canada. They told me that they never had tested it on a N54 since the vehicle they prototyped was an N55. I've only owned the car for around a month and with a little research i found out that they are pretty much the same from the mid pipes back. So i pulled the trigger. Part of the reason why i went this route is that Exoticspeed's system actually comes with a manual valve control just like the OEM exhaust. I couldn't find this feature anywhere else. I live in a town home and have neighbors to the side of me and above me and I need to be somewhat considerate especially during cold starts. Another deciding factor is their exhaust is a Y-Pipe to single 3" design. Based on my experience with the Genesis Coupe, this design seemed to flow much better than having two smaller pipes and weighs less as well. (Again another feature i could not find on any other exhaust system.) Anyways installation is pretty much a breeze. Fitment is spot on. In fact so spot on that you cannot install the mid pipes from an angle. It has to be perfectly aligned with the flanges on the down pipes. The carbon fiber tips have that dry carbon look to them which is nice since it gives it an OEM look and doesn't scream modified exhaust. Even the finish on the exhaust pipes and the muffler are OEMish color. I've been pulled over a couple of times in different vehicles and polished piping is always a dead giveaway to law enforcement that something has been modified. I'm pretty confident between the black tips and the color of the piping i can pass it for being OEM. LOL

I know most of you are into the really loud exhaust systems etc but i live in California and having straight pipes and no muffler are just asking you to get pulled over here. The sound is everything i could have asked for. It's not too quiet and it's also not overly loud. It has just enough sound for me to hear it especially when flooring it without the dreaded drone that everyone seems to complain about at certain RPM's. I drive around 80 miles a day so i couldn't deal with drone especially since drone tends to happen at cruising speeds on the freeway. The sound itself is very sporty/euro. By the way no other modifications have been done to the car aside from the exhaust. The exhaust is probably still breaking in since it's only been less than a week so i will be posting more videos once i've got at least 500 miles on it along with drive by videos etc. Only con i can think of is that the tips are bolt on. Which is actually pretty cool because you can swap it out for something else fairly easily but they can also get stolen just as easy.

Now for the Videos:

The cheapest i could find it for is $1375 plus shipping and that includes the rear muffler section with valve controller, midpipe and carbon fiber tips.

Super cool but, Damn! Haha

EDIT: I didn't notice at first you said this come with midpipe too. Actually that's not as bad as I thought it would be. I was thinking $1375 just for the axle back.

Looks and sounds good! Do we have a weight difference vs stock? Any other options for exhaust tips?

Exoticspeed Midpipe: 19lbs
Exoticspeed Axleback: 24lbs

Total: 43lbs

The OEM muffler i haven't had the chance to weigh since it's at the muffler shop since it doesn't fit in the car. I've seen varying posts saying it weights 60+ lbs to some posts saying around 90lbs. It's heavy though!

Thanks for the write up. I really like how this exhaust includes the exhaust flap. Anyone know of other exhausts for our car that does the same?

Interested to hear thoughts on the piping switch to a single three inch mid pipe, is that supposed to flow more than the two pipe factory setup?

As far as i know there isn't one that has a built in valve/flap which is why i decided to go with this setup in the first place. As far as the large single vs the smaller twins, in the genesis coupe community (my previous car) they got higher hp figures from larger single compared to two smaller diameter pipe exhaust systems. I don't know how much better they are compared to what other people are running since i believe this is the first exhaust system to use this design for this platform. It definitely is lighter than duals that's for sure and my butt dyno can really tell a difference.

How does the valve flap thing work? Is it electronic or vacuum actuated?
