interesting that you are really against badging. I'm a Brit, living in Toronto relocating to Austria, and it seems that de-badging is much more common on the continent compared to the UK...especially when it comes to the real "M" cars it seems.

I'm neither for nor against badging, I think it looks good either way and is a personal preference... But I'm very much against false badging... Like adding an ///M badge to a non ///M car...

But seriously, dont put a M on you car. It would be bad if there was M135 and you did that, but this is even worse, because there is no such car as a M135.

I was at the Jersey Shore 2 years ago and saw a car with all sorts of BMW tags on it. It didn't look like a BMW, so I went up to it to get a better look. As suspected, some guy got lots of BMW tags and attached them to the car, go some BMW stuff in the interior, and did whatever he could to make his Honda look like a BMW.
Well, it takes a lot more than tags and rims to make a BMW... Biggest poser ever.. |

You should peg a playing card in the spokes so it makes a cool noise when the wheels go 'round!

If BMW doesn't put the ///M badge on, then there shouldn't be one. It's like buying a suit, maybe even a really nice one, but then stitching a Hugo Boss label on it. Way to poseur.
As for taking off the 135i, I don't have an issue either way. Looks very clean without it, but it also looks like something is missing.

interesting debate.....
valid points on both sides.. and 1 that is a very personal opinion in every way. however, i have a 1 series msport... it came from the factory as standard with M sport suspension. it came with //M on the stearing wheel, //M on the wheels, //M on the sills.... they don't make (currently) an M1, the only 1 series with moment with BMW motorsport input is the Msport. i think im correct in saying that both the 5 series and the Z3/4 were sold with //M badges on the back despite being the same car as the standard with msport tweaks (suspension and styling ie. no engine mods) in exactly the same way as they do now on the 1 series. In other words a M535i is not the same as a M5. which is exactly why i have a simple //M on the back of my 1er. If they make a 1 series M1 then it may be different, if i had //M1 then thats maybe different... i know some of you wont like it, and flame away if you wish.... but all i have done is reproduced what BMW have already done to my car, just in a slightly different location! BTW is does look nice imo of course  |

After spending a couple weeks in Europe, I'm convinced bimmers look better without the model designation.

I have debadged my 123d, personally i would not put an M badge on any car that is not an M car, granted i also have the M sport, but a few M badges here and there are differant to an M badge on the rear.
Changed, i personally would never put an M badge on the back of a diesel!!! Not until BMW put one on themselves (i hope it never happens) the idea of passing being passed on the street by your car and hearing the clatter of the diesel and then seeing an M badge makes me laugh! Dont get me wrong i think the dervs are fantastic, obviously i bought one myself! but they shouldnt have M badges on the back IMO.

BUT, since BMW did not see fit to badge the car with an ///M on the trunk lid, I'd have left it alone. I wouldn't see it as my place to brand the car. That said, it is your car, and a very nice one, at that. So my opinion is nothing more than that - an opinion. And I should say that you're placement of the ///M badge is nicely thought out. Were BMW to have badged it themselves, they'd be hard-pressed to do it any better.

you know what m8, thats a very good point tbh..
i don't know how common they are in the USA, but over here in england, most people 'presume' that my motor is a 'face lift' 3 series, either that or people ask what it is... i have only had 1 person in the 2-3 months i have had the car, say 'thats the new 1 series...' only yesterday i was talking to an acquaintance who said, 'your new 3 series is alright isn't it!' dunno if vidge you have had similar things? funny.. had quite a large tv advertising campaign over here as well. |
