Carbon Fiber Hood Weight

Anyone know how much weight you might drop with a carbon fiber hood?

Best way to drop weight on your car...Go!

SLeK hood:

"The stock OEM hood weighs a massive 44lbs, our double sided hood weighs 16 pounds and single sided is 21lbs."

But remember all CF is made differently. Some hoods such as the SLeK one is made in California and they use high quality materials. A different hood that may be made in China won't be as light or durable. But this gives you a rough estimate of how heavy our stock hood is atleast.

I am looking to do a carbon fiber hood and trunk on my car.

However, I know that our hood shocks/struts (whatever you would like to call it that hold our hoods up) if they remain the same when opening the hood or trunk will have it fly open.

What are some good substitutes for them so that it does not happen?

Look into using M3 hood struts (?). I recall that the hood on the M3 is aluminum alloy weighing somewhere around 24lbs which is much closer in weight to cf options than stock 1er hood.

Interesting.. I have heard and seen some people do this. I had one person say that he needed to brake the shock in the center so that it does not fling open and doesn't flex his hood.

Did you break your too or did you leave yours as is?
and is your hood double sided CF or single sided?

Thanks for the reply's gentlemen. This is definitely helping me out alot
