Oil Change
I know much has been written about the oil cooler. But I have a more mundane query. How does one go about changing oil? I, like many, am not satisfied with BMW's schedule for oil changes, especially during the break-in period. The problem I see is that without a dip stick we can not know for sure how much oil should be added. I know from experience that the quantity of oil stated in the owner's manual is never an exact amount. I suppose we could ask a BMW service tech but does anyone have a practical solution for changing oil?

Doesn't the car have an electronic dipstick, ala Porsche?

oil level can be checked via instrument cluster on non i-drive cars and via the center display on i-drive cars. you will get a warning to add 1 quart when the oil level gets low. as far as the oil change goes, it's the same as it has been. open the oil fill cap, loosen the oil filter housing, and then drain. 6.5 to 7 qts will fill it max.
