Where to get water pump replaced?

Was driving along in my 2008 135i and it shat itself. Only 47413km always serviced at the dealer (I just bought it used at 46000km)

Engine temp light on. Limp home mode. Fan going crazy.

Pulled over now stuck on the side of the road as I type.

Can anyone suggest where in Melbourne to get the work done?

I am in the eastern suburbs.

Cheers,
Justin.

Ok after babying it I got it to My Car (Kmart tyre auto) and they will replace the pump and thermostat for $1800 all up.

It was closer driving there than home so just copping it.

Sorry to hear, have you tried the dealer to see if they'll look after you? You generally get a 3 month statutory warranty - although technically for cars < 10 years and 160k km.

Otherwise Southern BM have a good rep (never used them myself)

It would be a battle probably not worth fighting with the dealer.
I contacted BMW head office directly about an issue with my soft top (tear near C pillar) and they said there are no outstanding recalls on my VIN.

The car is 11 years old despite the low KMs, so I figured it's part of buying used.
I bought it through a private sale and when I looked into buying 3rd party warranty, it only applies for cars less than 10 years old.

You know the ironic thing about today's incident? I was out to have a drive and give it an Italian tune up! Well it certainly hit all the extreme temperatures for that!

So it seems your car has roughly 103,500km on the clock. AFAIK its fairly normal for the water pump to fail in the range of 80,000 to 100,000km which is the same for 125i and 135i models.

I've only done about 1000km since i bought it a month or two ago with 46000km

not 46+47k km.

so it's crazy young in km for its age... legit too as i have the full dealer service history from new from the previous owner.

Yikes Kmart! Yikes 1800!

Buy the pump here
https://clickableautomotive.com.au/b...517588885.html

I've done countless of these and only takes like 2-2.5 hours. Total gouge getting them to do it for 1800, and most likely fill it with the nasty green coolant that seems to eat all the plastics in the cooling system (Genuine coolant is blue and not even expensive).

True DIY would be cheaper, but I don't have the time and energy right now to deal with this.

On simpler cars I'd be willing to do work on them, but this bmw is over engineered and complex than what I'm used to working with.

Another place quoted $17xx and lube mobile wanted to sting me with $2400!
The Doncaster BMW dealer basically wasn't answering the phone, and I can imagine they'd be even more expensive.

I wish I had a hoist or a pit at my place... But my garage is so small it barely fits the 1er in it!

Its doable on the ground but it is a time consuming one. But as vtl said, there is unaccounted costs in their quotes.

I took 4 hours, 1st time on a driveway

Sorry to hear

I have a N55 MY 2011 with 60ks that I just purchased, the original owner had his WP fail under warranty so itís a common problem apparently, there are numerous threads on this forum that detail the issue.

Thereís a sticky thread on the main 1addicts forum asking members to post if they have had a failure

Got the car back today so I'm happy.

Cost $1684 in the end, with the OEM pump being $900ish, thermostat just under $300 and labour $300ish plus the bolts and coolant.

Comes with a 2 year 24000km warranty.

Not the cheapest but the car runs and fingers crossed no more issues.

I looked up the prices of parts at Supercheap Auto and it was even more expensive, though I know there were cheaper alternatives.

I think $300ish for labour wasn't too bad, just the parts are expensive.

IMO, the price around AUD1690 to AUD1800 is very reasonable for this job. Parts are the major cost as you wrote. You were unlucky to need to do the job before the car reaches 50,000km, so I wonder if there is something that caused it. Do you know of any indication that your car has been tuned or coded?

Yes I did a stage 1 MHD tune and also coded auto folding mirrors.

No tune prior.

Only have run the tune for less than 200km at a guess.

I doubt these had anything to do with it.
