128 on the dyno
Bimmer Performance Center in Raleigh held a dyno day yesterday. Was a ton of great looking and fast BMWs there. Thought I'd put my basically stock 128 on the rollers. It pulled the factory numbers, so I'm happy with that, 198hp at the wheels. There was a 335 twin turbo that pulled an amazing 740hp. It was stout...

I was surprised by the numbers I got, 213hp and 196Lb*ft at the wheels. I didn't think it would pass 200. I have deleted the carbon filter and intake resonator but haven't gotten a tune. |

I had ordered some M color vinyl off of ebay trying to think of some options to fly the colors in some subtle way. This was the best option that appealed to me. I just cut up some of the vinyl and then mounted it on some painters tape so I could apply it to the car. I think I need to do it over again, seems a little short to me...

Looks great sir!
I've got a 128i convertible like you, only mine is in white. I've also been thinking of doing mods. Please take a picture of the sides, as I'd like see your wheel/tire upgrades. |

Thank you for your integrity sir!
I actually saw someone else put an "M" badge on their 128i and thought that it was silly. Yours looks tasteful. Quote:

White knighting for the sanctity of the 'M' brand is the BMW communities favorite passtime.

Yes, but that's the way BMW sold it. You could, however, order it without the M colored stripes and M badges, etc. so it looked like a standard 5 series if you wanted to look inconspicuous. Sadly, the E12 M535i wasn't sold in North America.

It's cool to see someone actually hit the rollers with a car on here. What's the next step now that you have this baseline? Or was this just a curiosity?

It's funny, my wife just left to go to the beach with some friends. Took my car, but left me here at the house. She did specifically ask me how to work the convertible top before she left. I see trouble afoot... |

I still haven't hopped on the dyno, myself, but I'm being cheap and waiting for a car show/dyno day for some cheaper pulls.
