Where would it go? Behind the sunroof you have the central lights/alarm box... by the time you put it behind that, no one would be able to see it. This would almost HAVE to be for Euro cars without a sunroof.

Here is the BMW Marketing Bulletin... All US E90's come with sunroofs and i'm being told by BMW that this is for the USA E90.
with sunroof. so I guess i will have to buy one and install it.

$1899? WTF?
I've never understood how the automotive industry just fucks people. You can buy a Dell laptop with a bigger screen that does a lot more then just play some DVDs for $500. Nav systems are even worse, take the tech out of a 3 year old laptop, a $50 GPS receiver and some map software- all of which you could slap together at Fry's Electronics for less then $600- and it suddenly becomes a $2000 option. BMW is raping people on this stuff. |

I know this wouldn't help passengers when the car is being driven, But why doesn't BMW allow you to watch DVD's on the i-drive screen if the car is parked?! All the hardware is there, would it really be that much more work to add some simple software.

This has been out since the E90 launch. Unless the USA delayed introduction.
Please note those numbers are fro region 1 players (USA ect ) and for cars with sunroof. Ask your dealer for the correct one for your country and model |

yep... gotta give the buyer some logical bang for the buck w/ it comes to features... materials like wood, finish, give the manufacturer some slack, you're buying a lux car, but when you withhold a 'subfeature'... makes it feel deliberately snobby.

I agree, but it's not just BMW. Nav and DVD are still new "toy" options and mostly status symbols. If I need directions I'll push my BMWAssist button and pay them $5.

The pricing for anything automotive is probably a direct result of supply chain markups. Even though the technology is not exactly cutting edge, companies like Siemans (who make our Key Fobs and most likely our onboard computers) like to rape large companies like BMW. So, the costs are passed to us, every step of the way -- down to the last washer, seat belt holder, whatever. It's our wonderful economy doing this to us. Ever hear of the $150,000 NASA screw driver?

Cool...my ass. Why would I want to put the this stupid DVD player on my roof anyway? This is not a long distant driving family car. Who cares if the kids need to watch movies or play games. If I need to, I'll get 10.5" portable DVD system for $350 in Costco.
