Me too…
Wondering where their studs are produced…
I’m reading that rust in the center of wheel studs is bad…
Go figure!

Wheel studs are not an unnecessary risk. If installed correctly (torque +locktite) they are vital to having a car that does any track duty and very safe. There is a reason that wheel studs are standard at any track.

I personally find wheelbolts to be way riskier than lugs.

Probably because a stud's easier to replace than a hub, if something gets stripped. And faster to swap out a wheel during an actual race.

I'd disagree. Fewer parts, fewer threads, almost no chance of what triggered the whole discussion.

I don't typically find either to be risky, but if that label gets applied to one, it's definitely the studs, more so if they're a kit put on DIY.

Today I:

Installed and coded a new FRM3 module - all functionality returned but windows now giving me grief.

Received my new sprung organic SMF clutch to replace the one I cooked

Bought a bunch of stuff to support installation of said clutch.

Wish me luck 😂

This happened recently and insurance is still figuring things out so I'll keep it very brief. A car merged into me at low speed. No injuries and we both stopped immediately. Could have been a lot worse and it sucks because I've put a lot of time and effort into the car but in the end it's a material object. So not too worried in the grand scheme of things. First time I've had to go through this. Initial repair estimate is a little under $4k. We'll see how it all unfolds...

…. I absolutely did make it with all my panels… Not completely intact but still hanging on for dear life. Turns out I raised it enough for regular street driving but it was no match for route 80. Some drilling and some hammering and I now have a quick release bumper for the time being. I REALLY wish evolution racewerks didn’t discontinue their front. I’m not a fan of 1m fronts so I’m still shopping for a wider front end that doesn’t suck. Til then I’m rockin the fukboi buttons.

Went to a new (to me) cars and coffee today and this M2 parked next to me. Chatted with the owner a little but he and his buddy were in a hurry to go into the coffee shop and left as soon as they came out without much visiting.

The owner of this DeLorean also didn't spend much time socializing.

So today I finally got round to putting some M Sport Competition seatbelts into my E88, and found some Awesome M Sport Style Bkack Aluminium pedals from Europe 👌. Also had my local interior dude change the stitching on my steering wheel.

Well, clearly this worked. Haven't had the dolphin squeal yet, and it seemed to fix a low speed squeal that the local bmw performance shop couldn't quite figure out for the previous car owner. The shop did a huge overhaul on the brakes at the direction of the previous owner but the squeal remained. It sounded like brake pad squeal from the front brakes under light braking, but that has completely gone away since I replaced this seal. Coincidence? Maybe, but I'm wondering if under light braking the pressure differential getting sucked through the little valve on top of the PCV was making a whistling noise that sounded like brake pad squeal.

IMO, if you are going to buy studs, buy them from someplace reputable. I'm comfortable with the APEX studs I'm using, but I do check them with a torque wrench occasionally just as a matter of course. And even then, they're a consumable item (e.g., I'll be replacing them in about 12-18 months from first install).
