I originally voted that my 2008 135i with 70k miles hadn't lost it's water pump yet....well this morning my vote has changed lol. It went out while I was on the highway, cut my speed went to yellow thermostat symbol then red after a quarter-mile while I found a place to park it. Fortunately, I bought a new waterpump earlier this week to prevent this from happening, unfortunately I shipped it to another city where my mechanic buddy lives; I had planned to drive the car this Friday. I guess I'll be towing it there instead.

Oh yeah. The dealership wanted $1150 +tax for the waterpump replacement(including install).

It's still cheaper to tow it to SA and get it worked on from my mechanic who's going to replace the pump/thermostat, coolant flush, injector replacement, oil change, power steering flush and do an intake valve cleaning.

Sorry to hear that about your waterpump. Also when you have your injectors replaced you do know they will need to be coded to your car to work properly. I am sure your mechanic knows this - I just thought I'd point it out.

Best of Luck,

Thanks for the reminder, I'll pass it along to my mechanic just for my own peace of mind.

Checked this thread 3 weeks ago on original water pump thinking I was invincible. Mine just failed today and was towed to Sterling BMW Newport.

87K miles on my 2008 128i. Replaced the pump last month as part of my 90K maintenance. It was not an easy job, however. Will take it to the mechanic when we reach 180K!

101,6xx and still the original water pump. not sure bragging rights or failure waiting to happen...from my experience on working on BMWs for the last 7 years, probably time to swap for a fresh one.

72,000 miles and mine just went. June 2008 build. $1480 at dealer. Includes thermostat, water pump & system flush. I suppose the BMW dealer will warrant it for 24 months or 24,000 miles?

Should I keep this car? So, many things have been replaced.. turbos.. fuel pump... etc. I guess would be silly to dump it now.

Your on borrowed time. Guy at work had his go at 62K. Mine went at 72k. I was going to get it replaced back in April of this year. Car had 63k on it then. The Indy shop told me that I would get symptoms and it should last until 90k. Guess what .. he was WRONG.

^^Yea... I agree. I think its clear(by looking at the POLL) IF your car is a 2008, you should replace the waterpump before 60K. Maybe even 50K.

For 2009 and later models... replace it at 80K miles.

Just had my third water pump installed. Last one was just over a year ago. This is a real pain, this time it was a slow leak. Car has done 132k km.

Coming up on 85k and still on the original. Ordered the complete kit from ECS with the pump/thermo and hoses/coolant to swap out. I figure it doesn't have very long to go before dying.
