Opinion - Tire Sizing: 1M front conversion
Ok. Basic stuff here. I'm squaring up my fender widths with OE wide panels up front. Not doing the rear until I decide I need it, and I'm not totally convinced it would really net me that much more (usability) tire than I currently have on the rear axle.
These are the wheels: Apex EC-7 18x9.5 et22 front and et58 rear. I have the 18x9.5et58 rear wheels on already with 275/35/18 tires mounted, spaced 3mm to minimize rubbing the fuel filler neck. I may space it out 5mm or even 10mm. Apex has advised a 255, 265, or 275/35 front tire. The handling appeal of 275 square is strong, but the reality is I don't track or autox much at all anymore, went twice last year. Once this year. Next year I probably won't get there at all. Canyon carving is another deal altogether and I go once a month. But I really don't push 10/10 or even 8/10 on public roads. In that case, 275/35 square would mostly be for rotating tires. Otherwise I'm inclined to fit 255/35 up front. Open to thoughts!

I run 255 square on style 261s. I feel like for canyon driving, especially tighter canyon driving, the amount of effort to get the 255 to turn in is pretty high. You can get quite the workout if you're actually trying to keep some sort of pace. I can only imagine wider tires will require more effort.
Just something to think about. |

Nope, stock steering rack. I have TC Kline Coilovers with their Camber Plates and M3 front control arms.
I don't remember my alignment settings at the moment, but I think I was pretty close to 1/8" total toe up front, something like 2.3* of Camber. I still need to play with pressures since I think that'll help the most at this point. PS4S tires, in case you care. |

I'm using a rear style 261 in the front. I also have a set of Arc-8s, I'm debating whether I should put PS4S on those or use something more aggressive (RE-71R), but might have to wait till next summer to make that choice.

If you're not doing any sort of competition just pull your fenders and run a 245 or 255 square set up. No need to do the whole conversion for 20mm.

This happens once you weaken the corner after aggressive pull/flare. 245 square won't hold what I'm putting down. Haven't had a 255 on the rear since the year I bought it. Not looking to go backwards. So yeah, there's a need, relatively speaking. +20mm (actually +30) is asking a lot from stock fenders, especially when running chunky tires.
