Apex Wheels: E82 1M + Porsche Cayman ML-10RT Feature

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

E82 1M Photoshoot: ML-10RT wheels and 987 Porsche Cayman dual feature

The E82 1M is a rare beast, but one beloved by any BMW enthusiasts that have had a chance to get behind the wheel of this special M car. While it was a limited production model, it paved the way for the F87 M2 while retaining a special character and skunkworks feel thanks to special touches from M division engineers.

We jumped at the chance to shoot our ML-10RT wheels on this Valencia Orange example. These shots feature both our 18” ML-10RT wheels in Machined Lip Gloss Motorsport Gold as well as our 19“ ML-10s with the clean Machined Lip Race Silver finish.

In addition to the 1M, we also brought out one of its old rivals to share the shoot on the same wheel design. The 987 generation Porsche Cayman has always been a popular driver’s car both when these cars were new as well as years later on the used market. While the cars are similar with both being compact German sports coupes, the platforms and approaches couldn’t be more different. Luckily for us, both cars look fantastic on our new ML-10RT wheels.

18” Wheels:

ML-10RT in Machined Lip Gloss Motorsport Gold
Front: 18x9.5 ET22 - Profile 3
Additional negative camber recommended

Rear: 18x10.5 ET22 - Profile 4

Tires:
Continental ExtremeContact Sport02
Front: 265/35-18
Rear: 295/35-18

Our most popular staggered fitment both for the 1M and the E9X M3 which the 1M pulls many parts from. This fitment showcases a deeper wheel profile in the rear with our ML-10RT. The advantage of creating this classic design with Monoblock forged construction is that our spoke profiles can be more concave and optimized on a per fitment basis unlike 3 piece options that have a fixed spoke shape.

The front wheels of the Cayman are a great example of a profile 1 ML-10RT. Despite being a relatively high offset narrow fitment (18x9 ET46), the lip design of the ML-10RT allows lower profile wheels to still retain visual depth while providing proper fitment for cars like this Porsche or the standard E82 1 series which is famous for its high offsets and lack of concave wheel options.

For more Shots of the Cayman, head over to our gallery page here.

19” Wheels:

ML-10RT in Machined Lip Race Silver
Front: 19x9.5 ET22 - Profile 3
Additional negative camber recommended

Rear: 19x11 ET44 with 12mm rear spacers - Profile 3

Tires:
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
Front: 275/30-19
Rear: 305/30-19

While 19s aren’t as common on the E82 1M, this aggressive staggered fitment is a great option when run with spacers in the rear that maximizes tire width as well as the aggressive appearance.

Big thanks to both of our Photoshoot Volunteers for letting us shoot their cars! You can follow the 1M owner here: @thatorange1m
The Porsche owner can be found here: @mediumhuskyguy

I'm waiting right there with you for my Z4M set as well.

They'll be worth the wait though!

Good call! I'm not sure on the exact spec that this car was running, but we do typically recommend a bit of additional negative camber up front with these cars when running the 18 or 19x9.5 ET22 front wheel. He is definitely picking up some camber from the reduced ride height as well. I'll add a small note to the wheel fitment sections.

Best looking wheel ive seen for some time.
The gold 19s are particularly inviting.
When you do them in a 20” you’ll have my deposit.👍
