Hello elzorro4!

You can find out what SIB you currently have on you're BMW by going down to you're local dealership and asking a service advisor or on the paperwork you're advisor gave you for a previous service. Hope this helps!

I just had mine done at Classic in Plano. I dropped it off at 7:15 this morning and my SA called right before noon said come pick it up. I did give them the SIB number and told them that my symptoms matched the SIB so that may have helped.

That's not quite six hours and my drive from Classic back to my office in Las Colinas with full AC on was awesome.

I then tested it by using the drive through at a local food establishment and no lugging, lurching, or fluctuations so far.

I'm hoping this does the trick and kudos to Classic BMW for listening and taking care of me.

I just got The Red Car* back from having the 12 15 14 done, and I've got to say, the car now drives like it's supposed to for the first time in the FSM knows how long - it feels Touched by His Noodly Appendage. I'd had a regional guy come in and say some incantations over it last summer, and while it improved for a while it eventually overwrote itself back into trying to kill me when turning into traffic.

My current plan is to run it for around 90 days or so, and if all remains good I'll probably throw a PPK at it. If not, it'll be time to order an M2 or M235/240 or whatever it gets called.

BMW Woodlands has been a tremendous help with this (unlike a certain unnamed dealership within walking distance of my office that used to have great service but ran off all the good techs).

* September 2010 build N55 DCT, 27K miles - it would be more if it hadn't spent a cumulative 3 months or so in a service bay

I took my car to BMW Bellevue, and they told me they cannot do the update since they drove my car and see no problem with it. Since they cannot reproduce my problems they won't do anything. I told him that did not make sense since it was a software update and I was having the problems. He said that without a issue they wouldn't be able to do the update.

Anyone else had problems with the dealer like this?

Go to another dealer and try your luck there.

Be sure to complain that you have: throttle lag, idle fluctuation and lurching forward issues.

Tell them to turn the AC on to FULL/MAX. This is what made my dealer do it. The first time they said the car works as designed - NOT!

Very good point! For a lot of people, this (ac on) is when they have their issues.

I had the regional guy say the exact same thing. In response, I asked if he really wanted me to believe that a German company with a whole bunch of successful lawyers in its customer base would knowingly design and sell an actively dangerous product. At that point he agreed to do the mysterious special laying on of hands and wires that lasted for about two or three months before it got overwritten back into oblivion.

I emailed my service advisor regarding this question. This is what she said:

"Software is only covered for the first 4 years, if our diagnostic says it is needed to fix a problem." I assume that means 4 years or 50,000 miles.

"The DME itself is covered under federal emissions up to 8 years.
For defect only, not damage, and it would have to be diagnosed by the dealer first."

So I had not read through this sticky until today. Funny, because I was actually having some idling issues. My idle would drop around 500-600 and actually feel like a misfire so I made an appointment with my local dealer.

After having my car for about 3 days, I was told that they could not find any reason the idle was low, but that for 1 hour of labor they would be happy to "raise my idle values". I told them that as long as the low idle wasn't hurting anything that it didn't bother me, and there was no need to raise the values. Upon picking up they had raised the values anyway. I inquired as to why, and they said they either had to charge me for the diag or for raising the values, so they went ahead and raised the values so that I wasn't spending my money on nothing.

After reading this thread, it makes me wonder if they should have applied this new software to my car, and didn't because of how long it would have taken them to flash it. Maybe my car didn't meet the criteria of the service bulletin, or maybe they just didn't want to mess with it?? hmmmmm...

I am getting ready to do a Cobb protune in the next few weeks. My question is do you think this is something I should have the dealer address before the tune, or do you think the tune will take car of the throttle lag?

Wouldn't this be defect related? I'm going to ask my dealer this week.

So got my car back early last week from the dealer after they had it for the weekend. Updated to SIB 12 15 14 and re-set the throttle adaptation. Have had some time to drive on it now and here are my thoughts.

First and foremost - this pretty much completely fixed all the complaints I had. The lurching/jerking forward from a stop, the scary delay when decel'ing at low speeds then accelerating again (like when slowing down for a left turn then deciding I can make it - I'm sure you all know this shitty feeling), and the feeling that the car had no clue what gear to be in around 10-20 mph (in traffic). All around, it drives much more smoothly and probably how it always should have. Certainly no noticeable power loss or anything of that nature. Car is 100% stock.

That said, be prepared for the burbles and noises to be a little less pronounced. That's the only way I can really describe it. They are definitely still there both on the upshift (M mode, Sport button on primarily) and on the decel but far less pronounced in my opinion . Maybe quieter is the word for it?

I had the update done on Friday and so far no issues. I will wait until I have put a bunch more miles on it to decide one way or the other. It's not definitive, but I also hadn't noticed any issues after I put a drop-in K&N in last weekend. The hesitation and rough idle are/were normally intermittent so it could have just been happenstance it didn't pop up in the four or five days prior to having the DME updated.

Hey guys,
last year, I have the Canadian equivalent PUMA to SIB 12 09 12 updated on my car, and now you guys are talking about SIB 12 15 14, seems like it takes care of the same problem. Anyone knows which one is more up to date? Canadian car has different codes apparently, and it took me a while to get my dealer update the DME.

Did you get it done? and I assume you are still under warranty right? Do you have the PUMA number or anything on ur service paper? I am in Toronto too, and its hard to find information cuz the dealer always says those are US codes and stuff... -.-!

SIB 12 15 14 is the latest, and it actually works. You need this if you have DCT, in my opinion...

SIB 12 09 12 sorta worked for a while, but the new one actually seems to fix it entirely.

Contact BMW Customer Service and tell them you want the update for free since you consider the throttle lag a safety issue and that you are afraid that you will be in an accident as a result. That's what I did and they covered it out of warranty.
